Once you are comfortable with these lessons you will then want to include some forms of
technology as prezi, voki, and class blogs.
Technology to Differentiate Instruction
Prezi: Prezi is a website where teachers or students can create a slide show of information on a
standard you are learning or teaching. Through this site you can provide many different ways of
teaching the same topic. For students who are showing that they are exceeding in the area you
can have them create their own prezi on the information they know to present to the class.
Teachers can also use prezi to recreate the lesson to help those students who still need extra
support. (Describe how you would use this tool to differentiate instruction. Through using this
tool you will be able to gather what your students have learned on the topic that you have been
teaching. Due to the wide array of presentation options, Prezis often take longer to create then
PowerPoint. However, the results are dynamic presentations that engage students(McKee 2015).
This tool allows students to connect with the ISTE standards through their presentation.
Voki: Teachers could use this tool to help with the different levels their students are when being
taught a new lesson. Teachers can break their students into groups of those who excited, who
meet, and those who are in progress. The students who are exciting can create a recording of how
they would teach the class on this topic. The meets students could research an area where they
want to learn more on the topic. The in progress students might create a recording on questions
that they need answered to help them learn more about this topic. The can help students to are
normally to shy to get up in front of the class create an avatar who can do the talking for them
and the only thing you hear is the students voices. This can provide students with a since of
confidence. This allows students to connect with the ISTE standard through creativity in creating
an avatar to be them during the presentation. The students also have to research the topic they are
going to present on. This can be used in task cards to allow students to create avatars and voice
recording. Voki for teacher and parents in their class, school lab, or home computer can create
the same presentation as a video recording with fewer resources needed (Branch 2011).
Blog: This can be used in teaching by providing a place where students can answer question and
ask questions without having to get up in front of the class. This is also a place where students
who are exceeding in the standard can help their fellow classmates. This goes along with ISTE
because it allows students to critical think when they are answering question that have been
posted by the teacher or other students questions. It also allows them to use research skill for
answering questions that they do not know. This tool can allow students achievement because
they are allowed to explain their answers to questions it can also be used as an assessment tool to
make sure students understand the lesson you are teaching. Using this type of social media in
the classroom is important. It helps students learn digital citizenship, Internet safety, and
netiquette in an authentic environment that goes beyond the rules and actually lets them practice
it (Tenkely 2015).
Pros and Cons
When using these types of technology it can help with your teaching an differentiate
instruction classroom. You can provide your students with different projects they can work on to
help keep each of your students engage. It can also help you to create different lessons that
hopefully engage all of your students at the same time. Technology also addresses the necessity
to cover a wide range of content in a short amount of time by minimizing the need to take
curriculum at a slow pace (Hobgood & Ormsby 2015). The other side is that when you are
planning on using these types of technology they can crash in the middle of your presentations.
They can also go slowly at times that you want them to work. It also might be a little stressful
having so many students working on so many different projects at once. Through it all it can
make for an engaging and rewarding process for all students.
Concluding Paragraph
As teachers and students in classroom keep changing the way we teach and how they learn, there
will always be room for growth. Teachers need to make sure they are creating lessons in
differentiating so they can provide a classroom that keeps all of their students engaged and
making sure not to leave anyone behind. These tools can help teachers on this journey to help
create a classroom that students want to come to and learn. Students can also feel as if they had a
helping hand in their education. Lets work together to create classrooms that invite students to
come in and learn.
