} CLASSROOM OBSERVATION TASK 2: The teachers position and body language

Note the teacher`s position and movement. Draw a ground plan showing the teachers movement
during the lesson.

When and where does the teacher sit?


- The teacher sits occasionally at the moment of calling the row, and
then when the students are developing an activity that involves
writing. The teacher sits only on his desk facing the students.

When and where does the teacher stand?


- At the beginning of the class the teacher stands in front of the board
facing the students, while giving the instructions and the topics of the
class. Then while reviewing the day topic the teacher began to move
around the classroom and asking specific students for answers and
opinions.

How near does the teacher approach the learners at different parts of
the lesson?

The teacher maintains a reasonable distance and he tends not to


approach the students too near, instead he call to the students by
their names.

When does the teacher move around?

The teacher moves around while asking for participation of the


students and also for monitoring while the students are working in an

activity, and answering questions related with the activity.


Does the teacher project to all the learners?
- The teacher does project effectively to all the students, because of
the fact that the number of students is not particularly large and that
the room has the acoustic conditions that help to improve the

projection of the voice of the teacher.


Can the teacher be heard and seen clearly by all the learners?

Yes, the teacher uses gesture effectively during the class and is able
to use as a tool to help the understanding of the students about the
topics discussed in class.

Does the teacher make eye contact with individual learners?

Yes the teacher make eye contact with the whole class, and also
makes eye contact with specific learners to ask for a contribution,
and also to call the attention of the students that are distracted or
interrupting the class.

Observe the different interactions in each lesson and complete the table. Then answer the
questions.
What is the predominant type of interaction?
Teacher whole class interaction.
Does it seem appropriate to the aims of the lesson?
- Yes it does, because it gives the opportunity to all the students to
participate actively, and make comments during the development of

the class.
In which interaction were the learners most productive?
- Learners in groups interaction.
