Level 3 Summary

In level three students will develop the ability to play a simplified version of the game that
allows them to focus on setting up to attack and winning the point. Working towards playing 4 v 4
students will develop the basics of setting up to attack, and winning the point, and defending against the
attack. The on-the-ball skills that will be refined include the overhead pass (set), forearm pass, and the
attack (spike or dwonball). The underhand serve will be introduced. Off-the-ball movements included
are returning to base, opening up, reading and anticipating, and transistioning. This level is focused on
developing the ability to set up the attack off an underhand serve which requires the stabilization of the
forearm pass as the first contact. Now that the students are hungy to attack the ball they should see the
importance of making a good pass on the first contact.
The following table identifies the Tactical Problems, Off-the-ball Movements, and the One-the-ball
Skills covered in this level.
