Are video games turning our generation in to killers?

For years the majority of adults

and people with in the media
have been turning the blame to
violent video games when there
is a crime
commited by a teen. People have
seen it all over the media that
vioent video games are bad and
the cause of random violent
outbursts, this is stuck in the
publics head by theory called the
hypodermic needle which
indicates that violence is injected
into us and we become immune
to it. Through this theory the
media is causing a moral panic
throughout society. They genrally dont take in to account that
there could be an undiscovered
underlying issue with that
particular individual. They also

tend to stay away from the affects

that their upbrining may of had on
them. It seems
to be easy for

people to just blame video

games for the soul cause.
With the majority of these kind
of cases the game may have
been the trigger to crime, for
example ideas of how to comitte it, but it is thought that genrally the idea to do something
was already in the individuals
head.
An example of this is a
case where a 16 year
old boy fhot is father
in the head and
murdered his
mother because they
banned halo in their
house. The boy had
snuck out of the house
to perchas a game he was
told he was not allowed. His
parents found out and took the
gamefrom his possesion,
putting it safely in a lockbox
along with the fathers hand
gun. About a month later the
boy took the key to the lockbox,
removinghis game andhis
fathers hand gun.

He then took that gun into the

room wherehis parents were sat
and shot his father in the head
and badly injuring him, he
proceeded on to shoot his
mother in the head, arms and
chest which
resulted in her death.
A survey has been
carried out to find
out what teenagers
view on certian aspects
to do with the video
game Call Of Duty.
Questions such as Do
you think the violent
nature affects your
behaviour?
Most responces to the
questionair were what
would be expected. For
example, people under the age
of 18 playing 18 rated games.

The majority of people asked

said that they tend to get more
aggresive after playing games
like Fifa rather than those of a
violent nature. This is not how
the media portrays things to
the public, they lead you to
believe that it is games which
include violence and gour that
encourge bad behaviour.

100% of the people asked said

that they do not feel that the
violent nature of Call Of Duty
effecs their behavouir. If futher
research was done in to this it
could possibly be used to show
that the game is not the soul
cause of a violent out break.
This might lead in to research
into under lying issues with
the person responcible of the
crime. These under lying issues
could be anything from their
up brining to a unknown
mental health issue.
