How to record individual instrumentalists using the H2N Zoom Recorder


(for audition or testing purposes)
1. Turn on the Zoom by turning on the power switch on the right hand side at the bottom of the
recorder. The LCD display screen should turn on and the red light on top of the recorder
should light up.
2. Switch the arrow selector on top of the recorder to MS or Mid-Side function. This function
captures a good directional mono sound for individual recordings.
3. Press Menu. Select Input. Use the toggle/play switch to select and enter the following
settings:
LO CUT ON (designed to suppress low frequencies in the recording. This can reduce
unwanted vocal sounds or background noise.)
4. Press Menu. Select REC. Select REC FORMAT. Use the toggle/play switch to select
MP3 320kbps.
5. Press Menu. Select Folder. Select Folder 1. All files from this session will now save in
Folder 1. If you are recording multiple students, select different folders for different students
to keep your recording session organized.
6. Press Menu. Press Input. Press Auto Gain. Press Solo. This should prevent you having to
adjust the mic gain while recording.
7. Press menu one more time to save these settings.
8. Press the record button (red dot on the front of the zoom) to bring you the recording screen.
You are ready to go!
9. Set up your instrumentalist and press the record button on the front when they are ready to
begin recording.
10. Monitor and adjust throughout recording (if necessary) the mic gain on the right hand side of
the zoom to ensure the sound is not clipping.
11. Press the record button again to stop the recording.
12. Repeat steps 8 - 11 as many times as necessary to complete recording. All files will
automatically save to the device.
13. When you are done recording, turn the zoom off and connect to your computer with the
USB cable. Choose storage on the Zoom when the screen lights up. The computer will
create a connection (or depending on your computer you might have to click on the zoom
from my computer and you will see your files in the appropriate folders)

14. Listen to and rename the files on your computer accordingly


15. Save the files you wish to keep.
16. Burn to a disc or upload online to submit audition or test.
17. Erase the files on the SD card only after you have made two copies (just in case) to create
space for more recordings.
