Week One: (10.09) Self-Esteem & Confidence.


Facilitator Name: Saint Vincent College Student; Master of Science in Counselor Education, Heather Hays

Discussion: Go over group rules. Explain to students the benefits of having high self-esteem, confidence, and upholding a
desirable reputation. Note how important it is to believe in oneself.
Activity: 34 question Self-Esteem test. I will establish a report with the results and bring them to the next meeting.

Week Two: (10.14) Self Esteem & Confidence.

Discussion: Reviewing results of self-esteem quiz, discussing feelings towards each students results.
Activity: Students will read a real life experience about a girl being bullied in school and discuss their feelings and
attitudes towards specific details included in the reading. We will discuss ways of dealing with similar situations and selfesteem boosters to ensure a positive self-image is seen through each student.

Week Three: (10.23 & 10.28) Healthy/Unhealthy Relationships.

Discussion: Students will discuss key attributes of both healthy relationships and unhealthy relationships. Students will read
a real life story about a relationship then discuss giving their thoughts, experiences, and ideas about similar situations.
Activity: Love is/Love isnt Game. Facilitator will hold flashcards up including key words. If they feel that love is the word,
they will give a thumbs up. If they feel that love isnt the word, they will give a thumbs down. Discussion will occur for each

word.

Week Four: (10.30 & 11.4) Peer Pressure.

Discussion: Review discussion questions with students and ask about personal experiences with peer pressure. Discuss the
different types of peer pressure and an experience where you were pressured into doing something and how you handled the
situation.
Activity: Have students read a real life peer pressure story. Discuss how they would handle a similar situation, what they
might say to the girl in the story, experiences with cyber-bullying, threats, etc. Discuss how to stop cyber bullying and what
teachers, parents, and counselors can do to help someone in this type of situation.

Week Five: (11.11 & 11.13) Social Media.

Discussion: Discuss the positives and negatives about social media. Cyber-bullying, apps, meeting new friends, location
setting, etc.
Activity: Before students read Lis digital tattoo story, draw a picture of a person on a sheet of paper, then ask students to
imagine the things that most people would be happy to share with others on an outside figure of a person and the things that
are more personal/sensitive/private on the inside. Allow time for students to read Lis digital tattoo story and discuss. Then
ask students to explore scenario again and explore three possible outcomes based on the scenario.

Week Six: (11.18 & 11.20) Positive Role Model/Reputation & Recap of Group.

Discussion: What characteristics do we look for in a friend or a role model and why? Discuss celebrities, family members,
teachers, friends, or other school or community employees.
Activity: Students will write down 10-15 of their own positive attributes and discuss their feelings after sharing. They
should feel free to use any form of creativity discussing why they (themselves) would make a good friend or a positive role
model in another persons life or what they can change to become a positive role model in another persons life.
