Student Work Sample with Teacher Commentary #1

Standards:
S3L1. Students will investigate the habitats of different organisms and the dependence of organisms
on their habitat.
a. Differentiate between habitats of Georgia (mountains, marsh/swamp, coast, Piedmont,
Atlantic Ocean) and the organisms that live there.
Expectations for Student Work:
Students were supposed to list the names of the 5 habitats of Georgia and then identify one animal and one
plant that lived in each of the habitats.
Feedback/Commentary
1-Not Evident
Your work clearly addresses the standards by differentiating between habitats and it identified the organisms
that lived there in a very organized chart! The work sample does show that students were instructed on
what the five regions of GA are and what organisms (plants and animals) will live there.
However, you were given a 1-not evident because next time you need to make sure your standards and
elements are stated so I know what is expected. The standards and elements are missing from your
assignment.
The assignment could have been better for next time if students were asked to also explain the features of
the plant and animal that they chose for each habitat and how the features help them to live in their
particular Georgia habitat. Also, one other thing it could need for next time is for the student to include
pictures of plants, animals, and symbols that represent or depict the different GA habitats. The images
would give the teacher a better understanding of the depth of knowledge of the child on habitats and
features of animals and plants in the 5 Georgia regions.
