1 Shared Vision - facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision

for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership .
Reflection
The shared vision paper was completed in ITEC 7410. The goal of this assignment was
to develop a shared vision for technology implementation within my school. This journal
describes the process involved with developing this vision.
Using the ISTE Essential Conditions, I developed a survey that had a very high
response rate and shared it with the faculty at my school. This survey helped me
facilitate the development of the shared vision for our school. I also interviewed my
principal to see how he envisioned technology implementation within our school. The
vision states that Hillgrove High School will be a place where all students use
technology to afford greater opportunities for active learning. Teachers will use
technology to facilitate student-centered project-based learning experiences in
constructivist environments where students will work collaboratively to ask questions,
think critically, create products, and solve problems while justifying their solution with
evidence supported by research. Students will leave high school with technology skills
that have prepared them to compete, contribute, and improve our society as they
continue their lives.
After developing the shared vision for the faculty at our school for technology
implementation, I met with my principal to begin planning how this vision can be
implemented in the coming school year. Based upon the results of the survey, we
determined that there were two major areas of need. The faculty believed that they
need specific professional development tailored to their needs and in ways to use
technology for assessment to help inform and make changes to their practice as
educators. To implement these changes, we determined that a technology team will be
created and will consist of teacher leaders from each department that will become the
technology leads for their department. These individuals will conduct a needs
assessment for their department and professional development will be based upon
those needs identified.
From completing this artifact, I learned the importance of gathering input from a variety
of sources to develop a shared vision. I also learned how beneficial and informative a
simple survey can be in informing administrators about the needs of their teachers. My
principal was surprised at the results of the study, and motivated to provide teachers
with what they needed to be successful. One thing I would do to improve the quality of
this process is I would involve all stakeholders in the development of the vision. Taking
this class in the summer made it difficult to communicate to parents and students. If I
were to do this again, I would do it at the beginning of the school year in order to involve
all stakeholders.

The work that went into creating this artifact will definitely affect faculty development.
The input received from the faculty is what will drive our professional development next
school year. Administrators will assess the impact of this experience as they perform
teacher evaluations next year. Teachers will also assess it as they evaluate the
professional learning experiences they have next year which have come to fruition from
this experience.
