Introduction
Abortion is one of the leading causes of arguments, religious ideology, and even political
standings in this country. My topic delves into why abortion should be outlawed in the United
States showing the multiple fields in which abortion is an issue. I want to show that abortion is
not only a topic for debate, but a serious and complex issue that needs to be looked at from all
sides in order to understand its full meaning. Only after knowing about the full extent of abortion
will you be able to make a clear and educated opinion about it. I want people to see why and
how I believe in the criminalization of abortion rather than me explain and voice my own stance.
The way I looked into this topic of abortion was by trying to categorize the fields stated earlier. I
found that abortion can play into medical, moral, political, religious, and social situations and
even found out about the history of abortion throughout time. This helped me in simplifying the
vast subject of abortion into more manageable and easier to research sub-headings that helped
with my argument of criminalizing abortion. This was the only way to assure that my argument
would be backed up effectively and without biased opinion, meaning that I didnt just find ProLife articles and articles that supported criminalizing abortion. I had to find subjective, academic
pieces that simply stated facts rather than share my opinions about the most opinionated topic
in our society. The citation form that best fits my background in research papers and the one
that will be used in this project will be MLA. I feel the most comfortable when using this citation
because of the countless hours I have spent citing all my sources to their format.

Source 1Flanders, Carl N., and Caroline M. Brown. Abortion. New York: Facts on File, 1991. Print.

This book about abortion is about how abortion has incorporated into our law-making
and case decisions throughout all of American history. It gives a detailed look at all the court
cases and legislation that has passed that deals with directly or indirectly the allowance of
abortion in our country all the way up to 1991 when this book was published.
The purpose of this book was to show and explain the cases and legislation that has
passed from our government in laymens terms. It helps the general public understand what
these decisions mean to us as the general public. The information comes from public records
such as the legislation and court decisions that are made available to all of us. This showed the
political side of abortion by showing what our government has determined about abortion in our
daily lives. The bad part about this book is that it is NOT current only going to around 1990.

Register.
N.p., 2014. Web.
The article is about a case in Connecticut that deals with a pro-life couple and how they
overturned their states health system that followed Obamacare. It talks about elective abortion
being covered by all the policyholders even when some, like the couple, are pro-life. It then
goes into detail about elective abortions (which terminates the pregnancy before the 20th week)
and about what each state has in their laws about it.
The article was written by a Catholic on a Catholic website to show that the pro-life
movement is gaining ground against the government and making a real change in state-based
regulation. This article fulfills my need in talking about moral/religious belief of abortion (by
showing that almost unanimously Catholics everywhere support pro-life movements based on
their belief of life beginning at conception) and political belief showing the state legislation about
having elective abortions. This article is current only coming from year ago which means that

the topic is still being actively discussed. The article is an easy read and can be understood by
anyone who is interested in the topic.

Source 3Linders, Annulla. "Abortion." Encyclopedia of Social Problems. Thousand Oaks: Sage
Publications, 2008. Credo Reference. Web. 15 June 2015.
This article presents abortion in multiple areas of social issues such as medical,
womens right, and moral issues. She goes in depth in all of these sub-headings explaining the
medical history and definition of abortion, how feminist have viewed anti-abortion campaigns as
sexist because it doesnt allow them to decide what is best for themselves, and how religious
and moral viewings of life are seen when it comes to abortion.
This article answered a multitude of questions I had on the subject and even gave me
detailed information on sub-headings that I had broken abortion up into. It was written to show
how abortion is viewed in the social sciences community and the different aspects of sociology
that abortion can be seen in. Its from 2008 which shows that it is a current article dealing with a
fairly current knowledge of the subject. She uses language that helps people not in the
sociology community understand what she is trying to explain. It is more of an educational
article just presenting facts about abortion and what it means in those certain areas.

The History Of Sexuality 17.2 (2008): 259-289. SocINDEX with Full Text. Web. 16 June
2015.
The entire article covers feminism and industries such as PlayBoy who portray and

advocate for a sexualized image of women. It talks about how feminist are trying to get rid of
these companies because it is a damaging image to women everywhere, whether you are a
feminist or not. It sexualizes women and gives them an unattainable body type that is shameful
to the vast majority of women everywhere. It touches on the fact that these industries advocate
for abortion as well showing that women arent just here to get married and have babies. She
actually agrees with them on this point stating that feminist advocate for the choice of doing
what they want with their babies.
The main purpose of this article was to discuss feminist points of view regarding a wide
range of topics which just happen to include abortion in this particular case instead of solely
being about abortion. The author wanted to present some main arguments and disagreements
they have with industries that sexualize the women form. This article is from 2008 which is
current enough to still be a talking point in todays society because these industries still exist
such as PlayBoy. She uses pretty vague language but does discuss a topic that if you arent a
believer in, it might be difficult to see her point of view. For instance, I am unfamiliar with the
feminist specific point of view on abortion because of the different sections of women who
advocate for pro-life because of their religion. A multitude of factors can factor in to what you
believe in with reference to abortion.

Web. 16 June 2015.
This article talks about the huge victory in regards to the March for Life protest that is
trying to ban abortion altogether. The article discusses the bill passed in the House that banned
abortion after 20 weeks of the pregnancy and how this one little victory is fueling a new wave of
believers in the cause. It also discusses a new act being voted on called the Pain-Capable

Unborn Child Protection which bans abortion after the child in the womb develops pain
receptors.
This article was written in May 2015 which was not even a month ago. It is so current
that most of what is being said in the article is happening right now within our government. It is
current discussions happening right now in our nations capitol for the future of the pro-life
movement. This fulfills my need in the political spectrum of my topic because it is a current
victory and example of the movements impact to our nations legislation. Even if you are not a
pro-life advocate, you can still read this article and understand that this movement is making
waves within our government and making an impact to our society as a whole.
