The Montreal and Kyoto protocol are two frameworks towards a single goal of
environment safety. These protocols suggest prohibiting the usage of synthetic refrigerants
to prevent ozone layer depletion and control global warming as well. Such conditions
encourage us to consider natural fluids as working substances in refrigeration and air
conditioning systems. The present work deals with thermodynamic analysis of N 2O
transcritical cycle using dedicated mechanical subcooling theoretically.
In this work the thermodynamic analysis for improving the energy performance of
transcritical cycle using dedicated mechanical subcooling is done for three different evaporator
temperatures 5, -5 and -30 0C. And this analysis is done for the environment temperature range
from 20 to 40 0C using propane as refrigerant for mechanical subcooling cycle. It is observed
that using the cycle combination, the maximum increments in COP and in specific cooling
capacity are 22% and 30% respectively. And also the increments in COP using different
refrigerants in mechanical subcooling cycle are presented, the increments indicate that this
cycle is more efficient for the environment temperatures above 30 0C.
