As a person that has been conditioned for the rigors of martial art and military training to

the degree that solace is found in the structure that both offer, I was quite surprised by the
requirement of us setting our own schedule and even more so when it was placed before us to
create our own rubrics. In time I noticed that professors were more fulfilling what I would have
classified as a facilitating role than one that I had in my mind fix as traditional
instructors/professors.
This really challenged me as I am one that gives trust to my instructors and follow their
lead and defer to their expertise and guidance as long as there are no glaring signs of ineptitude. I
come from a upbringing of generational knowledge where each generation starts farther ahead
than the previous as they build on the tiers of their ancestors. I am a little perplexed why this
seems to come across as a foreign concept when it is the marketing rule of most model
technology Apple is already up to 6 they hire new staff and that staff picks up where the
previous employees left off.
This experience has definitely opened my mind to new pathways, however; as I am still
digesting and processing much of the information many of my questions are still in the
processing stage and quite ephemeral as I recenter. This makes it difficult for me to evaluate how
foxfire the facilitators were as my understanding is quite incomplete and transforming
continuingly. As I am quite grounded in traditional foundational methods the experience came
across as progressively heavy and not the theoretical middle ground idealized by Dewey,
however; I think that may have been on purpose in order to pull us from the extreme that most of
us existed at and the shock value to grab our attention and mandate self-reflection.
