Objective:
At the end of the lesson students will be able to talk about and share information on a persons daily
routine.

Step 1. Presentation of input: The teacher presents daily routines using picture file and corresponding
sentence strips.
PRESENTATION OF DAILY ROUTINES
Instructor: Hoy vamos a aprender sobre las
rutinas diarias [The teacher writes on the board the
theme Las rutinas diarias.] Miren estas
imgenes. Qu hace l? [ teacher points to
picture of se afeita].
l se afeita en la maana [teacher fixes the picture

SE LAVA LOS DIENTES

SE QUITA LA ROPA

SE PEINA

and corresponding sentence strip on the board with


magnets while saying it in Spanish] etc. The
students repeat se afeita.

Step 2. Comprehension Checks: After three or four new items, the teacher checks the class comprehension
by covering up the strip and having the class respond to questions such as the examples below.

ASKING YES/NO QUESTIONS AND OPEN QUESTIONS


Quick comprehension check: show pictures and
either ask the students to say yes or no when you
say the correct or incorrect name of the daily
routine or ask the students what the person does.
Pictures are already on the board.

Step 3.The teacher proceeds in this manner to


present all the vocabulary, stopping periodically to
check comprehension.

Step 4. First Activity:. The teacher directs the students to page 153 of the text (See Dos Mundos textbook
illustrations below). The teacher asks students questions such as Juan se baa? Students answer with s or no.

Step 5. Second Activity:. Using the same illustrations the teacher proceeds to ask the students questions
such as Quin se levanta? Students answer in group with the names of the characters (See Dos Mundos
textbook illustrations below).

Step 6. Third Activity:. The teacher narrates different peoples activities and students identify corresponding
drawing strips from activity (See Dos Mundos textbook illustrations below).

Step 7. Fourth Activity:. Teacher models activity 8 from Dos Mundos Textbook asking students questions such
as Qu hace l/ella antes de..../despus de...? Students then work in pairs asking their partners the remaining
questions.

Step 8. Fifth Activity:. Pair Work. Information gap activity: Students are grouped in pairs. Each pair is given
version A and B of Marias daily routine described in five pictures. Each student is missing two activities and is
able only to see the times at what the activities are done. The students are instructed not to show their picture to
his or her partner, but rather use the model question Qu hace ella a las.? In order to find the missing
information. (See enclosed photocopy version A and B.)

Step 9. Sixth Activity:. The teacher puts up the transparency La rutina diaria de Adriana and the students tell
what she is doing in each frame as the teacher points to it (see enclosed transparency)

Step 10. Seventh Activity:. Closing: The teacher takes down the picture files and strips from the board
and holds up the pictures one by one saying Qu hace?

Homework. Students will write daily routines corresponding to the pictures in Qu hacen las siguientes
personas? handout, front and back and they will do exercise 3 on page 174 of their textbook (See enclosed
photocopies)
