The bleachers were packed and the room erupted when she was introduced, as well as after every
jump she landed warm ups included.
While Macri was surprised by the size of the crowd, she thinks there is a fairly simple explanation for
the popularity of the event.
Its gotten a lot of attention because a lot of people dont know about it, said the 24 year old who
has represented Canada seven times at the World Championships. Once they see its exactly like iceskating but on roller skates, they think its kind of cool.
It is the summer version of figure skating. I think its awesome that everyone is here.
Macri is the lone Canadian in this years competition and hopes that an event like the Pan Am Games
will help to increase the sports credibility.
Its bigger in South America as well as Europe, said the Canadian champion. In North America, its
not that big right now, but were hoping to bring it back.

Macri, who competed in her first world championships at the age of 13, intends to take matters into her
own hands when it comes to increasing the sports popularity in Canada.
I started (competing) when I was in my young teens, Macri remembered. I am planning to start
coaching soon and I hope to bring in more kids both male and female into the sport.
After the womens short program, the Canadian sits in fourth place with 114.40 points. She trails the
leader, Argentinas Giselle Soler, by 15.60 points, but is only 1.70 points behind Chiles Marisol
Villarroel for third place.
Soler, whose sister Elizabeth won gold in the same discipline at the last Pan Am games, hopes a good
showing in Toronto, coupled with continued strong crowd support will lead to bigger an better things
for roller figure skating.
Roller sports havent been in the Olympic Games yet. I hope with all of our hard work and training
that it will become part of it soon.
The womens long program takes place at the Exhibition Centre on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. Medals
will be awarded directly following the competition.
