Dear UXCEL Board Members,
Please accept this leter as recommendation for Mary Hendrickson, RN, BSN, OCN to credential to a Level IIL
RN. It has been my pleasure fo work with Mary since she started at UCH as an ACP in 2011 and as she
transitioned into the role as a RN in UCH’s New Graduate Program in 2012. 1 was lucky to be one of Mary’s
preceptors and I have witnessed Mary develop from a new graduate to a strong, competent nurse, and leader on
our unit
Mary was a smart and eager new graduate, but she also had a unique quality that set her apart from other new
«graduates I had worked with, She had a quiet confidence about her and [ was instantly amazed at how she
approached her new position with such composure, never getting flustered or overwhelmed, Mary has maintained
that demeanor as she has quickly progressed over the last three years. She has become an extremely
knowledgeable clinical nurse who provides a very high level of care to the wide variety of patients we see on our
Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Units,
Mary’s strengths as a nurse go beyond the medical care she provides to her patients at the bedside. She has a
holistic view of her patients and their families and isa strong advoeate for them, Mary works closely with our
medical teams, pharmacy and all support staff to provide thorough care to her patients. Inthe spring of 2014,
Mary was promoted to permanent charge nurse and has grown even further, serving as a strong leader for our
large unit, She is able to keep a good perspective about our unit’s patients and staffing as well as how we fit in
with the overall flow of the hospital. Whether Mary is in charge or working the floor, she is very approachable
and makes herself available to the nurses and other team members. She is definitely viewed as a valuable asset by
her peers, the Oncology/BMT leadership team, and the multidisciplinary team with whom she works.
In addition to serving as a respected permanent charge nurse, Mary is a valuable preceptor and has done a
wonderful job with our New Graduate Nurses and nursing students. Her willingness to share her knowledge, her
and patience make her a wonderful teacher. She is able to create a positive leaning environment
one in which they feel very open to ask questions and express concerns.
Mary's dedication to the unit extends even further through her tireless efforts to improve not only patient
jon but also employce satisfaction, She serves as the committee chair for our unit’s Service Excellence
‘Commitize. She has implemented rollouts such as the Bright Ideas box as a place for staff to share ideas and
suggestions for improvements on the unit. Additionally, Mary's focus this past year has been to improve patient
faction and HCAHPS through a new call system implementation which has had profound impact. She hi
done an extensive education campaign for our staff which has raised awareness of the importance of addressi
call lights in new inventive ways. Mary's commitment to nursing, to our unit, and to UCH makes her an excellent
‘candidate for Level III nurse
‘Thank you for your consideration and please feel free to contact me if you would like any additional information,
