THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE

CAST OF CHARACTERS
NARRATOR: The person who tells the story.
HARE: The arrogant hare who ends up losing the race.
MR TORTOISE: A calm and humble tortoise who wins the race.
MRS TORTOISE: MR TORTOISEs wife who doubts him in winning the race.
FOX: The judge of the race.
ANIMALS (3 Squirrels, 2 Ducks, 2 cows, 2 Sheeps, 1 Tortoise): The audience who
cheered for tortoise.
LION: The person who nominates the TORTOISE for winning.

SETTINGS: The forest.

PERFORMANCE TIME: 20 minutes

EXT. FOREST DAY

The HARE and the TORTOISE meets and talks. The HARE starts to
humiliate the TORTOISE.

NARRATOR
One day, a hare was making fun at the tortoise.
(Blackout, Spotlight on narrators)
HARE
Ha, ha, ha! Your feet are so small and you walk so slowly that
too long to get to a place. (CS)
(Spotlight on hare)

MR TORTOISE
You may be as faster as the wind, but I will beat you in a
race. (CS)
(Spotlight on hare and tortoise)
MRS TORTOISE
Are you sure you want to race the HARE? (DR)
HARE
(DS) That is simply impossible. Ha, ha, ha! But, I agree,
lets have a race.

MR TORTOISE
(DS) Very well then. The fox will choose the way and will wait
for us at the winning post.
(Spotlight dims)

The FOX overhears the conversation and agrees to be the judge for
them.
FOX
Very good! I will be waiting for both of you. Lets see who
wins! (LC)
(Spotlight focus on FOX)
NARRATOR
On the day of the race, the two started the race together.

(Spotlight focus on NARRATOR)

The HARE and the TORTOISE starts to run as fast as they can and HARE
takes a short nap.
FOX
1,2,3 go!(DR)
MR TORTOISE
I will not stop walking. I will keep walking slow but at a
steady pace straight to the end of the finish line. (DR)
(stage light on)

HARE
Oh well. That tortoise walks so slow that I have time to take
a nap. (takes a nap-drooling) (US)
(stage light dims and blackout)
NARRATOR
When the HARE woke up.
(stage light on)
HARE
Oh I fell asleep. I have to run as fast as I can. I think I
wasted some time. (US)
NARRATOR
Then he saw the tortoise had reached the winning post.
LION
Now I present to all, the winner of this race, MR TORTOISE!
(the LION places a medal onto the TORTOISE)
HARE
How did you do it? This is impossible! (DC)
MR TORTOISE
While you slept, I kept walking. I may seem slow, but I am
constant and patient, so I won the race. (DC)
HARE
Youre right TORTOISE, being fast doesnt mean that you will
win. I learned my lesson! (DC)

The HARE and the TORTOISE walks out of the jungle.

(Stage light dims and blackout)
