Classroom Assistant
8 hours each week in 7 different classrooms at a Spanish secondary school.
o Bilingual Classes
Social Studies
3 courses of students that age 12-15 years old. I help reinforce the English
vocabulary and concepts using other manners of explanation. This provides a
challenge for me because I am learning about the Spanish history and geography
while trying to explain the vocabulary and concepts more in depth. This course
requires some background knowledge of history and geography as well as
knowledge of the USA for comparisons.
Technology
These two classes are taught in English to Spanish-speaking students and are
theory courses on technology relating to pulleys, fulcrums, energy, forces, etc.
These courses require my knowledge of physics and concrete concepts to explain
the concepts. Also, these courses test my ability to explain the information with
various methods since English is not the first language of the students.
o Math Classes (Spanish taught)
Algebra
Help out in the classroom explaining and teaching various concepts in English
after the concept is taught in Spanish. I also help out with Spanish explanations
as well when the students do not understand the English.
Primer Bachillerato (First year post-compulsory)
This course is similar to those of Probability and Pre-Calculus. These students
are around 16-17 years old and are specializing in mathematics or technology. I
assist in the class by listening to the concepts being taught in Spanish and then
providing examples and explanations for the students in English and occasionally
in Spanish as well. This class requires my understanding of the math concepts
and the Spanish language in order to explain the concepts in English or Spanish
afterwards.

Mathematics Instructor
o Taught various math skills to students ages 5-18. I worked with 2-3 other instructors and managed
on average 3-6 students at one time. Each of these students were different ages and had different
skill levels. At one time I could be working with a student on AP Calculus and then switch to a
student working on multiplication tables.

to work in study groups to solve their questions.
Within the AVID classes, there were different racial backgrounds, religions, genders, and
languages. At least one third of these students knew more than one language and English
was not their primary language.
