* *Network Systems* People who work in this group of occupations


design, install, and maintain computer networks. They first find out
what the needs of a facility or organization are for computer
services. Then they make a detailed plan, purchase the equipment,
and install it. They also make sure that the system continues to
work properly and meet the needs of the organization.
* *Diagnostics Services* People who work in this group of occupations
perform a wide variety of medical tests as ordered by medical
doctors. The purpose of these tests is to gather information to help
doctors make an accurate diagnosis of a medical problem.
* *Programming and Software Development* Many who work in this group
of occupations design and write computer programs. Some teach others
how to program. Still others are engineers who design computer
hardware. Many are managers of computer network or database operations.
* *Regulation* People who work in these occupations know and enforce
the law related to standards that protect our health and physical
safety where we work and in our communities. Some workers in this
field inspect places to see if they conform to standards. Others may
read reports, make claims that standards are not being met, and
testify in court trials to that effect.
* *Biotechnology Research and Development* People who work in these
occupations do studies in order to find treatments, medications, and
cures for diseases. Some design various kinds of devices to help
people who have lost a body part or function.

occupations provide a variety of special services in school
settings. These individuals help students with personal, physical,
and educational problems. Examples of these occupations are school
counselors, social workers, psychologists, and speech pathologists.

provide instruction to students at specific grade levels or in
specific subjects. In addition to knowing the content of what they
teach, they need to know how to work with students. They often need
to encourage them to learn and to change their approach to meet

group of occupations help others who are faced with personal,
family, or career problems and decisions. They assist them to see
their choices clearly and to make a choice that seems best. They may
work in private offices, clinics, schools, or hospitals.
* *Therapeutic Services* People who work in this group of occupations
deal directly with patients to provide whatever kind of medical care
or treatment they need. Many kinds of technicians, nurses, and
medical assistants who work under the direction of medical doctors
are included.
* *Family and Community Services* People who work in this group of
occupations work in community agencies to help others who face a
variety of problems. Their clients include the homeless, those with
physical and mental problems, the aged and poor, and those who are
without a job. They attempt to find sources of help for their
various needs.
