The goal of substance abuse treatment in prisons and jails is to let offenders learn coping skills to avoid self-destructive practices due to substance use. These treatment programs change the thinking patterns of offenders and they change their practices positively. In the result, they can return to the society and play an effective part in the society (bop.gov, 2015). For incarcerated addicts, cognitive behavioral treatment is focused in prisons and jails so that they can feel changes intrinsically. The programming starts with drug abuse education which paves the way for other programs including nonresidential drug abuse treatment and residential drug abuse program. Along with these programs, community treatment services are also rendered for the offenders which are intended to help the offenders to adjust with the community once they are released. There does not seem any reason to ignore the importance and benefit of the programming to inmates, society, and families. These programs change the perspective of the offender totally and he is able to spend life like a normal person which contains comfortable feelings for the family. Then the society is also protected by these well trained people who become better part of the society in the result of these programs. The programs offered for the offenders in the correctional facilities are effective and they have been designed to target the cognitive aspect of these offenders. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treatment program is broad enough in itself which covers aspects from thinking of the offenders to their skills development and from improvement in communication abilities to community adjustment programs. It is recommended to bring modifications in these programs in light of new trends and requirements in the field.
