Introduction

to the Portfolio Project

My journey to become teacher has been a long desired goal


and aspiration. My main convictions and goals for wanting to
pursue this career are steeped in my commitment to social
justice, activism, democracy, hope and success for future
generations. I believe that education is the key to developing
socially conscious, responsible and engaged citizens. To
properly gain insight and understanding into my desires and
skills in the field of education it is important for me to reflect
on my influences, experiences and knowledge gain thus far .

In Section one, I provide:
Portfolio Overview and Rational Development:
-In which I breakdown what I will discuss in each of the upcoming five
sections and explain how those sections will be expanded upon thorough the
paper.
Identify Theorist in the Field that my project will connect too:
-I provide the names of the theorist for which I will connect too; such as,
Paulo Frieir, Henry Giroux, Abraham Maslow, Jean Piaget, and Bell hook. I
describe and articulate how their work has impacted my views on specific
best practices I have adopted such as culturally reflective techniques and
more.

Background Experiences
In Section two, I provide:
My Educational Background
-I discuss my educational background from my early beginnings in the French immersion
program with the TDSB to my adult years at the University of Ottawa, Seneca College and
finally my Masters Program at Medaille. I make connections and discuss the relevance the
immersion program and my courses and Ottawa University in the field of Communication
and Sociology have impacted my decision to become an elementary teacher.
Work Experiences
-I make connections to how my work experiences in the field of Communications and
media helped to provide me with a diversified background moving from media, to
government and finally teaching.
My philosophy of Education
-I discuss my philosophy of Education which is to have students feel respected, valued and
stimulated. I speak to the issues of culturally reflective practices, maintaining democracy,
justice, equality inside and outside of the classroom; encouraging critical thinking and
inclusion are my main focus and backbone of my pedagogy.

Along with making connections to the Common Core and
accreditation bodies, I also explain and discuss the relevance of each
artifact and how its enabled me to develop my views and practices
within education. I also make connections to how each artifact
supports my philosophy of education and connect them to the
experts in the field I mentioned in section two.

Within this section I make specific reference to accreditation
bodies such as; NYS Common Core, the Ontario Curriculum
Standards, International Society for Technology Education for
Teachers and Students (ISTE),Council for Exceptional Children
(CEC), NYS Code of Ethics for Educators and The Ontario
Teaching Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession.
These standards are connected to my artifacts and this sections are
discussed in relationship to their importance towards me becoming
a teacher.

Within

section six, I respond to five important


questions that enable me to reflect on my education
and future career. This teacher interview was
designed to mock a real life interview process and
enabled me to formalize my thoughts and beliefs with
respect to education. During the interview I was able
to integrate my new found knowledge of technology
and showcase my |Weebly wesbsite.
