WATER MANAGEMENT RELATED TO CLIMATIC CHANGES

A- IMPACT OF CLIMATIC ON THE ENVIRONMENT, ON WATER RESOURCES :

degradation of water quality

ecological damage

less annual rainfall in some regions

less snowpack in the mountains

earlier snowmelt

warming air temperature that raises streams and lake temperatures

Increases in rain

Heavy precipitation/increased flooding

severe and longer droughts (scheresses)

Sea level rise

Encroachment of saline water into freshwater area

increasing of vulnerability of ecosystems,

impact on socio-economic activities

deterioration of human health.

increasing water scarcity and droughts

B. SOLUTIONS

1. Local catchments
Separate systems for drainage and sewerage (drainage et traitement des eaux uses) : comprehensive
network of drains, rivers and canals, water stored in reservoirs.
2.
Recycling
NEWater (or recycled water) is produced from treated used water that is further purified using
membrane technologies (microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet disinfection).
3.
Desalination/Desalination is the process of treating seawater with reverse osmosis : filtering
salty water
4.
More responsible domesctic use of water : take showers instead of baths, use rain to water
garden plants

5.
part )

Import water (example in Reunion from the East rainy part of the island to the west, the dryest
