Course Description
This course is for second level string students. Students must be
able to demonstrate proper playing posture, rest position,
accurate bow hold, staccato detache legato bow strokes, and
also be able to accurately play the major scales in the keys of D,
G, C, and F Major. This class focuses on building on those skills.
Students will continue to practice these scales, while adding new
keys and articulation techniques. Students will improve their
ensemble playing, and solo musicianship. Students will present
performances at the end of both semesters performing preselected repertoire provided by the teacher.

Students are expected to:

Attend and participate in class


Prepare for class (practice) outside of school
Bring all necessary materials
Be respectful in class towards peers, teacher, and instruments
Try their best (always try)!
Maintain a positive attitude
Arrive to class on time with clean hands and clipped nails

Course Goals Course Goals and Content


At the end of the year, students should be able to:

Develop knowledge of specific instrumental techniques, including posture,


playing/rest positions, unified bowing and violin positions.
Develop an understanding of the care and handling of the various stringed
instruments.

Develop knowledge of music reading, and of musical concepts such as pitch,


rhythm and meter.
Develop knowledge of music interpretation, style, and history of music and
musical instruments.
Develop responsibility, self-discipline and musicianship through individual and
ensemble play.
Develop a good sense of pitch for tuning and playing in tune
Know the key signature and be able to play the major scales in D , G, C, F, and A
major.
Demonstrate rhythm patterns: whole, half, quarter, eighth, dotted
quarter, dotted half, sixteenth, dotted eighth-sixteenth and
corresponding rests.
Be able to use music technology for recording, composing, arranging, assessing
music
Listen to and analyze music
Develop and expand music vocabulary
Demonstrate knowledge of various types of music in todays society
Identify music from diverse world cultures and understand music in a historical
context

Materials
Students are always expected to bring the following materials to class:

3-ring Binder
Blank Paper
Pencil and Eraser
Clothe to clean instruments
All music and handouts given out throughout the year
Sponge and rubber band for violins and violists
