Different horse materials and items to show the campers what the answers
are
Process:
1. Spread puzzle pieces out on table
2. Participants take turn picking pieces and reading the questions on the back. If
they get it right, they get to keep the piece, if they get it wrong, they put it
back
3. Once all the pieces have been picked, participants put the puzzle together.
Horse Tail Craft
Materials Needed:
Clothes pins
Scissors
Different colors of yarn, sparkly ribbon, fuzzy string, etc
Duct Tape
Instructions:
1. Cut about 7 to 8 inches of the duct tape, lay it down sticky side up
2. Cut pieces of yarn and string to the length you want your tails to be
3. Start laying the ribbon/yarn/string onto the tape. Stop when you have about
two inches of white ribbon left.
4. Start rolling the ribbon up and place an alligator clip near the end.
5. Make sure one side of the alligator clip is still exposed so it can be clipped
onto clothing
Opening: Yurt Circle (Find in red TR Activities binder under new games)
Body:
1. Give the group about 10 minutes to brainstorm their ideas on what they could
draw on the paper to represent what contribution they bring to camp and
how they can incorporate everyones ideas.
2. Give them time to draw the picture with pencil if they would like to before
they start painting.
3. Give each person a color and a plate. Whatever color the person has is the
only color they can use. This allows the group to work together as a team to
create a cohesive painting
4. After completion of the picture, give everyone paper towels and baby wipes
to clean up their hands.
5. Circle up around the painting and process.
Closing: Facilitate discussion by asking questions. Advise each camper to
remember that they are unique and bring something special to camp and we are so
excited to have them!
Opening:
Explain that music is such a good way to make you feel happy and good
inside. Even if you dont play a musical instrument, there are ways you can
still enjoy music!
Hand out cards with familiar songs written on them. Advise campers not to
show their song to anyone else.
Tell them to start humming their songs. Campers will have to try to find the
person that is humming the same song as them!
Body (option #1): Give each camper a different colored musical bell. Hold a
poster of a familiar song and have the campers ring their bell at the appropriate
times (indicated on the poster) to play the song. Repeat for several different songs.
This will keep people entertained for a long time!
Body option #2): Teach the campers the song (there was an old lady). For each
verse, have a different camper come up and hold the item that represents that
verse (i.e. a fly, a spider, a cat, etc.). See attached lyrics in index.
Body (option #3): Use a computer or the music system and a phone to take song
requests from the group and sing and dance all together.
Closing: Encourage the campers to make music a part of their lives!
AMAZING RACE
Materials:
Opening: Welcome everyone to group and explain the rules of the scavenger hunt.
Body:
1. Make necessary preparations by setting all the materials at their designated
sites.
2. Split campers into two groups depending on group size. (Maybe 3)
3. Hand each group a different clue. (Anyone except the last one.)
4. Follow them and pass out the other needed clues when necessary.
5. Engage each camper to participate in the activities.
6. Meet back in the lodge and give campers a small piece of candy to
congratulate them on completing the scavenger hunt.
Construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Stickers
Markers, pencils, pens
Table and chairs to accommodate group
Box of toys.
Opening: Have campers pick a toy out of a box of toys that reminds them of a
memory. Encourage each to share that memory. Explain that good memories are
important and we can use pictures or books or journals to help our memories last.
Body:
1. Make preparations for group by setting out all the materials
2. Encourage campers to make a scrapbook page of write a letter to someone at
home telling them all of the fun things they did at camp
3. Encourage campers to include everything they did this week at camp and
remember as much as possible
INDEX
THERE WAS AN OLD LADY LYRICS
There was an old lady who swallowed a fly
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and wiggled and tiggled inside her;
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;
How absurd to swallow a bird.
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady who swallowed a cat;
Fancy that to swallow a cat!
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady that swallowed a dog;
What a hog, to swallow a dog;
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady who swallowed a cow,
I don't know how she swallowed a cow;
She swallowed the cow to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!
There was an old lady who swallowed a horse...
