If we need to change anything around

around we can as needed. Feel free to bring things up in google hangouts since I know
I may not do a perfect job dividing or explain all this. You can tell me if any of it seem
unfair or you need help or anything at all because I really don't take anything as
personally offensive or insulting and we will do our best to address it :D. We just need a
start to go off of to get things going so I expect there to be changes along the way.

Info so far
The disability is ALS
The Individual is Stephen Hawking
We are doing a powerpoint for sure. Possibly having someone read over
the powerpoints and I (Curtis) will make it into a video to submit.

Work to be done
I will make both a list for each one of us for work to complete and a highlighted copy of
the description for each. Look at the color next to your name and I will highlight in that color, the
parts in the Project 1 description that are yours. We will need to fill in additional slides as well
so if you're able to please add as you see fit! :D

Everyone contribute
In pink, everyone should add to these in the powerpoint since its group
questions.

Organizing and dividing work to be done (Writing this document)
Laying out the power point to be filled in
I didnt put myself down to fill in each powerpoints content but I will be
jumping into them as I can help and adding any other slides that are needed.
Editing video to submit
Ill be taking the narration and timing everything with the
powerpoint.
Possibly create a website with the video (If we need to make it more
presentable)
If we need more content I can create a website that shows
some of the info and have a window to watch the video on.

Jessica
Narrating the power points
Narrate each slide individually and save it as its own file so
they can be pieced together. If you have problems doing them separate
then ask me (Curtis) for help or just do a one long narration. (Try to make
it go for the 8min-10min if possible)
Questions highlighted in description(Cite your own sources on last
slide)
Provide background of how the person overcame difficulties
to achieve success and document what particular struggles the person
still deals with.

(I assigned you most of the questions for now but can divide it more if you want to

help with other parts)

Questions highlighted in description(Cite your own source)

a. Provide background of how the person overcame difficulties
to achieve success and document what particular struggles the person
still deals with.
b. Tell us how their workplace or home environment has had
to adapt to their disability in order to accommodate them.
c. Also include any impact on their families or co-workers.
These impacts may be positive, negative, or both.

Group Project 1: Disability Categories

Purpose: To practice Group decision-making and conflict management; to learn about
disabilities as a diversity category; to become aware of the challenges that disabled
persons face in daily life; to practice communication skills by 1) participating in group
discussions and 2) creating a presentation for the class to view.
Topic:
1. 1. Choose a disability category, such as blindness, deafness,

cerebral palsy, wheelchair-bound, mental illness, etc.

2. Select an individual who represents the category. Tell the
story of how that person is handling their personal and/or
professional life. Provide background of how the person overcame
difficulties to achieve success and document what particular
struggles the person still deals with. Tell us how their workplace or
home environment has had to adapt to their disability in order to
accommodate them. Also include any impact on their families or coworkers. These impacts may be positive, negative, or both.
3. Tell the class what the group learned from doing this
assignment:
1. What did you learn about people with disabilities?
2. What did you learn about group process?
3. What was your group's decision-making process?
4. Create one specific question to ask the audience.
Format:
1. The group will present their story electronically (ppt. file, video,
webpage, etc.) Each member should have a specific portion that they develop
(content, visual, script, audio etc.).
2. Please cite all references at the end on a separate slide. Include your
audience question on a separate slide. It is this question they will respond to in
the discussion forum dedicated to the presentations.
3. Please submit a written document outlining your presentation in addition to
the electronic file.
4. Length: 10 minutes (+/- 2minutes). Be prepared to answer questions
posed on the discussion forum for up to 1 week.
Grading Criteria: VERY IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
1. Group grade (0-50 pts): The entire group will receive the same points for
the entire presentation. The instructor will grade these points, based on the
group's fulfilling the assignment requirements, including quality of analysis,
effective use of media, clarity of writing in the summary and overall quality of
presentation delivery.

2. Individual Grade (0-50 pts): The group members will determine and
submit the participation points of each group member. This must be done via
COURSE EMAIL titled with your group name. ie: "project 1 group a" individual
points.
3. EXAMPLE: Jill created the power point slides, but missed several
meetings. The group might award her 40 points as an individual. If her group
received 50 points, then her total point value for the project = 90 points (50 + 40).
1. The group should develop an anonymous system of fairly
evaluating each member's contribution and participation. Perhaps an
average of the summary of each member's evaluation for each other could
serve as the final individual grades.
2. Categories could include
1. Discussion participation/contribution
2. Research
3. Availability and cooperation
4. Role function
5. Level of input, using some sort of scale
3. Groups should develop their own system, using group
process, conflict analysis, and conflict managment/resolution. Anonymity
can help avoid the pressure to award everyone the same grade.
4. Individuals should be presented with their final individual
grade points before the class presentation is posted for the entire class
They should have a chance to give their feedback to the group about the
grade.
