1. PLANT DETAILS
GENERATOR AUX SYSTEM CONSISTS OF EXCITATION,
GENERATOR STATOR & ROTOR COOLING,SEAL OIL INITIAL
CIRCULATION AND HYDROGEN GAS FILLING SYSTEM.
2. TESTING OBJECTIVE
TO MAKE GENERATOR SYSTEM READY FOR GENERATION AND
SYNCHRONISATION
3.PROPOSAL
I EXCITATION
THIS SYSTEM CONSISTS OF THREE PHASE PILOT EXCITER,THREE
PHASE MAIN EXCITER,COOLER,METERING,CONTROL AND SUPERVISORY
SYSTEM. AT STANDSTILL, INSULATION RESISTANCE AND WINDING
RESISTANCE OF PILOT AND MAIN EXCITER ARE TO BE MEASURED.
GROUND FAULT DETECTION TEST TO BE CARRIED OUT AND MADE READY
FOR ON LINE MONITORING. ROTOR IMPEDANCE MEASUREMENT TO BE
CARRIED OUT.INSULATION RESISTANCE OF POWER CABLES TO BE
MEASURED.CONTROL PANEL(DAVR) TO BE CHECKED AS PER TEST
REPORT SUPPLIED.AT THE FULL SPEED OF TURBINE,RATED VOLTAGE
AND CURRENT ARE TO BE CHECKED WITH GENERATOR TESTS.
II GENERATOR STATOR COOLING SYSTEM
STATOR CORE IS COOLED BY COLD GAS. THIS GAS IS
ABSORBING HEAT FROM THE CORE & RETURNED TO THE COOLERS VIA
AXIAL FLOW FAN. STATOR WINDINGS,PHASE CONNECTORS AND
BUSHINGS ARE COOLED BY TREATED(DM) WATER IN THE CLOSED
CIRCUIT.THIS WATER IS AGAIN COOLED BY SEA WATER SYSTEM.
III GENERATOR ROTOR COOLING SYSTEM
THE ROTOR WINDING IS SYMMETRICAL RELATIVE TO THE
GENERATOR CENTRE LINE AND POLE AXIS. EACH COIL QUARTER IS
DIVIDED INTO TWO COOLING ZONES. I COOLING ZONE COVERS ROTOR
END WINDINGS & II ZONE COVERS THE PORTION BETWEEN ROTOR BODY
END & THE MIDPOINT OF THE ROTOR. COOLING IS DONE BY HYDROGEN
GAS SYSTEM.
IV HYDROGEN GAS FILLING
MAY BE EXPLAINED BETTER BY MECHANICAL TEAM
V SEAL OIL INITIAL CIRCULATION SYSTEM

8 COMMISSIONING PROCEDURE
I EXCITATION SYSTEM
AT STANDSTILL,ROTOR IMPEDANCE MEASUREMENT,GROUND FAULT
DETECTION MUST BE CARRIED OUT.IN AVR PANEL, AUTO & MANUAL
FIRING OUTPUTS,SMOOTH CHANGEOVER AND INTERLOCKS TO BE
CHECKED. REMOTE CONTROL PANEL COMMANDS AND RELAY PANEL
INTERLOCKS, PROTECTION TRIPPINGS ARE TO BE CHECKED.
DUMMY/LIGHT TEST TO BE CARRIED OUT. AT FULL SPEED NO LOAD,
PHASE SEQUENCE OF SYNCHRONOUS SUPPLY & GENERATOR SUPPLY
SHOULD BE IN POSITIVE SEQUENCE AND PHASE IN-PAHSE OUT TO BE
MATCHED WITH PERMISSIBLE LIMITS.
II GENERATOR COOLING SYSTEM
STATOR WINDING,CORE AND TOOTH TEMPERATURES ARE TO BE
MADE OK. HOT GAS & COLD GAS TEMPERATURES,PRIMARY WATER AND
BEARING TEMPERATURES ARE TO BE HOOKED UP IN THE CONTROL
ROOM.ALARM & TRIP VALUES TO BE SET TO PROTECT THE EQUIPMENT
IN CASE OF SUDDEN RISE ANY ONE OF THE PARAMETERS.
III SEAL OIL SYSTEM
SEAL OIL PUMP & VAPUR EXHAUSTER ARE TO BE COMMISSIONED.
RUNNING STATUS OF THESE DRIVES ARE TO BE MONITORED
CONTINUOUSLY .FAILURE OF RUNNING SHOULD GIVE ALARM OR TRIP
COMMAND AS REQUIRED.
IV HYDROGEN GAS FILLING
VOLUME,PRESSURE OF GAS TO BE MONITORED. FOR LIST OF
MONITORING PARAMETERS,REFER SEC 2.3 OF O & M MANUAL OF GEN.
9. COMPLETION CRETERIA
GENERATOR PARAMETERS ARE STABILISED AND WITHIN THE
ALLOWABLE LIMITS. AVR IS CAPABLE OF GIVING FULL LOAD
EXCITATION CURRENT DURING SHORT CIRCUIT TEST OF GENERATOR &
FOUND STABLE. ALL GENERATOR PARAMETERS ARE NORMAL UNDER
RUNNING CONDITIONS AND STABLE DURING GRID DISTURBANCES.
