    Welcometo8thgradeU.S.History!Thiscoursewillfocusonprovidingyouwithan
    understanding ofhow andwhyspecificeventsinAmericashistory thattookplace.Fromjust
    aftertheAmericanRevolutionthroughthereformationperiod,wewillinvestigate,discuss,and
    debateanumberofhistoricalissues andseektofindtheevidencetosupporttheresearchof
    thepasttoourworldtoday.

    Thisyearwillbedevotedtodesigningastudentcenteredexperience,whichmeansthatyou
    willneedtodoyourindividualresearchofvarioustextsandprimarysourcesthenpresentingin
    adigitalformatofvariousforms.Beingthatlearningisaverysocialprocess,youwillalsobe
    requiredtoactivelyparticipateinsmallandlargegroupdiscussions,bothwithintheclassroom
    andonline.Theseactivitiesandothersocialandcollaborativeexercisesarecriticalfor
    improvingyourhistoricalunderstanding.

    Theseskillsofcollaboration,researchanddefendingyourclaimareessentialforsuccessin
    HighSchool.Thisyearwewillworktowardsscientificinquiry,criticalthinking,argumentation
    andprimarysourceanalysisandinterpretation.Youwillutilizetechnologytodeepenyour
    learningandcreatedigitalmediaproductsthatdemonstratethedepthofyourknowledgeand
    understanding.

    EXPECTATIONS,RULES&CONSEQUENCES

    Choosetotestthelimitsofyourmindratherthantestthelimitsoryourbehavior.
    Ourclassroomwillbeapositiveplacewhereallstudentsareabletolearn.Ihave
    VERYHIGHEXPECTATIONSforyouintermsof:

    1)Havingapositive,respectfulattitudeand
    2)Puttingforthgoodeffort.

    Noteveryonelikesalloftheclassesorisgreatatallofthem,butaslongasyoutryyour
    bestandkeepupagoodattitude,youwilldowellthisyearandlearnalot!
    EverystudentisexpectedtofollowalloftheROARexpectationsaswellastherulesin
    theRightsandResponsibilitiesbooklet.Also,thefollowingrulesandresponsibilitieswill
    beenforcedinourclassroom:

    Consequenceswillincludethingssuchasverbalwarnings,privateconferences,time
    outs,writtenwarnings,parent/guardiancontact,silentlunch,detention,andoffice
    referrals.
