Historical Event Position Essay Reflection

The Constitution and its construction effects every United States citizen. It is amazing
that during the writing of the Constitution, anti-federalists were predicting problems that we have
encountered in the modern age. From the limitation or invasion of personal liberties, to state
and federal clashes, to political intrigue and tests of the checks and balances, the fears of those
who opposed the Constitution are still very much a reality. We have seen Presidents expanding
their power beyond their station as Patrick Henry warned of (Source 9). We as a nation have
been misled by those in power, been caught in wars and fleeced by election fraud and criminal
activities by those in the highest office.
The Constitution is related to almost every class that I have enrolled in. In our
communications class, we have gone over social movements, and the necessity of certain
amendments, the Constitutionality of laws, etc. We have studied conflict management, which is
exactly what the writers of the Constitution had to do, take a group of people with different
interests find a compromise that does not sacrifice too much one way or another.
The Constitution is one of the longest lasting and powerful documents that has ever been
ratified on this continent. By setting up the different branches, building in checks and balances,
and discouraging democratic general will or knee jerk reactions to events, the Constitution has
allowed the United States to enjoy a stable and long lasting government.
