Course Description
This course covers the skills and standards described in the
Nebraska State Standards for Language Arts including reading,
writing, speaking, listening, and multiple literacies. Grammar,
composition, and literature are the topics of this course with
emphasis on a formal introduction to expository writing.
Students write five themes each semester.
Course Goals
Quarter One: Students will read narrative and informational
texts to study the conceptual lens of relationships within society
and their personal lives. Students will read the play Our Town
accompanied by poetry and non-fiction articles selected by the
instructor.
Quarter Two: Students will read narrative and informational
texts to study the conceptual lens of culture. Students will read
Mythology and House on Mango Street accompanied by poetry
and short stories selected by the instructor.
