World History Syllabus

Course objectives include:


Mastering the content.
Seeing global patterns over time and space.
Developing an awareness and appreciation of the commonalities and differences of human experiences over time and space.
Constructing and evaluating arguments, both oral and written.
Using historic data, either primary or secondary, in an analytical fashion.
Developing sophisticated research and writing methods.
Skills objectives:
The course stresses the eight habits of the mind as set out in the AP World History Course Description.
The course is designed to help students:
1. think critically and analytically
2. write persuasively
3. discuss articulately
4. read extensively with content mastery and discernment

Grading Scale: Grades are figured on a percentage-based scale.


Class Assignments/Homework /Quizzes - 50 %
Test (Unit Test & Projects) - 50%

**Class Assignments/Homework/Quizzes - mainly consist of chapter vocabulary, chapter questions, current events, and other various
assignments given by the instructor.
**Quizzes - will be based on class lectures, textbook readings, and supplemental readings. It is important to read all of the assignments in order
to maintain success on quizzes. Quizzes will be given in either multiple-choice form or essay question form. [CR8], [CR9]
**Tests/Unit Tests - will consist of multiple-choice questions and/or essay questions. [CR9]
**Projects will include a variety of course related content, and technology formats throughout the year.

*Always take good notes. Note taking is a skill that can be pivotal in doing well in all of your classes.
*Understand the lecture. Always ask question if you do not understand.
*Always know the vocabulary. Familiarize yourself with common political jargon.
*Be able to understand both sides of an argument.
*Answer essay questions properly. Understand the question and answer the questions correctly and completely.
*Learn how to read charts and graphs properly.
*Always come to class promptly and prepared.
*Set goals for yourself and try your best to reach them.
*Participate in class and remain engaged in class discussion.
