MathWe will be having our first math test on Tuesday! This

test over the topic 1 Place Value. We continue to work on
math facts. We take a times test every Wednesday and record
the score to show our growth. Our Class goal is 85% right now.
If we reach our goal, the students will earn an extra recess.
Reading Next week our story is Thunder Rose. This is a tall
tale similar to Pecos Bill and Paul Bunyan. Thunder Rose is
quite a determined young cowgirl who just keeps at a job until
she gets it done!
GrammarWe will study about irregular and regular plural
nouns.
Writing We will be writing an ending to a tall tales using hyperboles. This is extreme exaggerations.
Spelling The practice tests will be on Tuesdays. Students who
get all their words and sentences correct will be given full credit early so they will not have to take the final test on Fridays.

Social Studies In United States geography, we will become
more familiar with our country and the different regions. We
will study the Mid-West, Western, Southern, and New England.
Science We will begin our Science unit with thinking like a scientist. We will be studying the scientific method: 1. Ask a
question 2. Do your research 3. form a hypothesis 4. Test your
hypothesis 5l. Analyze your data, and 6. Draw a conclusion.
We will be doing a lot of experiments in the next unit. It should
be exciting!

Note From the Teacher:

Just a reminder: All math homework needs to be signed by a parent. We will have
math homework nearly every day; however, we wont have homework on Monday or
Tuesday because we are reviewing and taking a test. Any homework that is a D or F
should be corrected for an average grade. This is not meant to be a punishment. It is to
help the child understand the material for testing, as well as, help their grades.
If a student has trouble on the homework, They may ask me first thing the morning.
I make myself available in the morning about 7:30 am. I stay after school until about 4:30.
If a student needs help, please let me know we will work something out. I can also help
them during lunch or during study hall.
