HOW TO COMPLETE PEER EVALUATIONS

Managerial Communications (CIS A280), Summer 2015

Peer evaluations are worth 50 points (5% of your semester grade). Team members are responsible for
monitoring individual and group performance, and improving their team performance as necessary.
These evaluations help ensure all team members contribute time and effort to group work.
Please be honest. Your ratings are anonymous. You will receive a cumulative midterm and final score
based on your teammates evaluations, and may receive generalized feedback based on their rationales.
The points are weighted towards the second half of the semester to reward growth.
You must submit the peer evaluations for a unit to get credit for that units team activities.

MEANINGFUL FEEDBACK
For each team member, beginning with yourself, evaluate their preparation for and participation in the
units activities. Evaluate from 0-4 (whole numbers only):
0. absent, unprepared, or hindered
1. made an effort, but there were fundamental problems
2. made an effort, but inconsistently
3. prepared/participated normally
4. fully prepared/made essential contributions
* You may assign one 5 in each unit. Reserve the 5s for exceptional work, not just the most
productive team member for a given unit.
Explain each score in the Rationale section. Be constructive and specific.

HOW TO SUBMIT EVALUATIONS

Save the peer evaluations Excel file somewhere you can access it throughout the semester, as your
submissions are cumulative. Do not change your scores for a unit after you have submitted it on
Blackboard. Add each set below previous ones, as shown in Table 1. Always include the tag (self) for
your self-evaluation.

Rationale (Explain each score. Be constructive and specific.)

I need to spend more time prepping for class. I did all of the formatting and
factchecking for the team document and tried to keep the peace on Tues. I was
more prepared on Thurs and spent a lot of time drawing Alpha and Ep back into
the discussion.
Nice document with lots of research, but didn't say much during class. We had
to ask repeatedly for his help and he didn't want to read others' versions. Came
late on Thurs.
The individual doc had a clear argument, evidence, and recommendations. We
used it as the model for the team doc. Gamma is spending more time asking
Alpha to work than focusing on the task itself, which is why I didn't give her a 4
for contribution.

She spent a lot of time on the individual doc, although the in-class discussion
showed much of it was off topic. Zeta devoted herself to developing a strong
team document that reflected all of our ideas. That wasn't easy, but she was
both patient and persistent. On Thurs, she kept us focused and our spirits high.
Great leader!
I'm doing better with the preparation and think I really came through this week.
Gave myself a 3 instead of a 4 because I need to follow the directions more
closely. The activities were fun, so it was easy to participate in the team work.
Most improved team player! Alpha was energetic, well-prepared, and eager to
listen to the rest of us.

When you have completed your evaluations for a unit, save the Excel file (.xlsx). Then save the file again
as a Text (Tab Delimited, .txt) file. If you open that file in Word or Notepad, it should look like:
