Whole-Song Rote Teaching Sequence
Targeted Age Level: Grade K-1

MIND CAPTURE: Teacher sits in circle and does silent laughter. Lead to learning the American Sign
Language sign for happy.
TEACHING SEQUENCE:
1x Teacher sings whole song and asks children to perform ta-ta-ta-rest throughout.
2x Teacher sings whole song and kids count how many times five years old is heard.
3x Teacher sings whole song and kids put high-five motion on each five years old.
4x Teacher asks for a little girl motion we could do each time those words are sung. Teacher sings
whole song and kids add that motion as well as sing along with the two high-five motions.
5x Teacher sings whole song and asks them to sing along on the first line with their new motion (as well
as the five years old section they sang last time).
6x Teacher introduces happy sign and motion for ha-ha this away sections. Teacher sings and kids
do new motions and sing old sections.
7x Teacher sings the whole song and children sing the whole song along.
