GoaWaterwaysareamongstthetenwaterwaysrecognizedbytheNationalTransport
Policycommittee.Goahasabout555kmsofInlandWaterwaysoutofwhicharound
255 kms are navigable through River Mandovi, Zuari and their tributaries. The
waterwaysareeffusivelyfunctionalwithcargomovement,whichconsistsofironore
from mines to Mormugao port. The internal transport network of Goa is well
developed because of a grid of well navigable rivers. This offers industries an
efficient mode of transport for their good and raw materials across the State.
CommonlyknownriversfromnorthGoatosouthGoaareTerekholRiver,Chapora
River,ZuariRiver,MandoviRiver,DudhsagarRiver,AnjunaRiver,SalRiveretc.
Mostoftheseriversarenavigablebyevensmallboatandtheyalsosupportprimary
economicactivitiessuchasfishing,sandmining,pebblesoppyetc.

MormugaoPortofGoaoccupiestheprominentpositionsasIndiaspremierironore
exportingPort.However,onlyaround.60milliontones ofironorewas exported
throughMormugaoPortduringtheyear20142015becauseofthebanonexportof
ironorebytheSupremeCourtofIndiawhichwaseffectivefromOctober2012till
November 2013. Then Supreme Court of India lifted the ban during April 2014.
DuringtheFY20142015theporthandledtrafficofaround14milliontonnes.The
trafficduringtheyearcomprisedofaround.60milliontonnesofironoreexports,
around9milliontonnes ofcoaland1.07milliontonnes ofliquidcargos suchas
petroleum products. The traffics also consisted of cargo like fertilizer, Bauxite,
Alumina,Limestoneetc.
