Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am very happy to have your child in my classroom this year. I am looking forward to having an
exciting and productive school year in US history, I hope you are as well. I believe that if we
work together, we can make this a very successful year. In order for this year to go smoothly
some guidelines are required. They are listed below. Please read over the information carefully
and sign the bottom of the page. My goal is to help every student succeed. If a student needs
extra help, I am always here to lend a helping hand. Thank you for your cooperation and
support in helping make this year the best it can be.

Course Description:
This is an American History course that covers the United States development from the
American Revolution through World War II. Students will have varied instruction, including
lecture, self-discovery, research, simulation, cooperative and independent assignments, tests,
and various types of media. We will also emphasize reading comprehension strategies, note
taking methods, study skills, critical thinking skills, and expository research and writing.

Course Guidelines:
1. Students are to follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Students are to arrive to class on time. (This means you are in the classroom when the bell
rings.)
3. Students are to come to class with the necessary materials to learn. (This means class
notebook, writing utensils, assignments, etc.)
4. Students are to raise their hand for permission to speak or to leave their seat.
5. Students are to be respectful to themselves, the teacher, and their peers.

Progressive Discipline:
1. Warning: Guideline infraction slip (student teacher conference)
2. Call home
3. Parent teacher conference
4. Dean's referral

Required Materials:
One Subject Notebook
Pocket Folder
Pencils/Black or Blue ink pen

Course Grading:
Students' grades will be determined on a weighted basis outlined below:
Grading scale
A=90-100%
B=80-89%
C=70-79%
D=60-69%
F=50-59%

Semester grades
1st Semester: 45% for each quarter
and 10% for semester exam
2nd Semester: 45% for each quarter
and 10% for semester exam

Homework/ Classwork:
All upcoming assignment due dates will be listed on the board.
All assignment due dates can also be found on the class website.

Absence and Late work:


Absences - If you were absent the day an assignment was due or assigned, you have three days
to turn in the assignment without penalty.
Late work - I will accept homework and class work up until the day before the end of the
quarter. The assignment will be counted as missing until it is turned in.
