TABLE OF CONTENTS

I. SUMMARY

!
Objective
A local magazine publication to bring light onto the hospitality industry focusing on local businesses. PA Gourmet
will focus strictly on bakeries, restaurants, bistros, and chefs within a 50 mile radius of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Goals
PA Gourmet will highlight based on locality to help increase local business profits. Using PA Gourmet will help give
insight on what different bakeries have to offer and their locations. You will also be able to see pictures as well as
get to know the chefs in the area that are preparing your food with a showcase of their work.

Solution
With PA Gourmet distributed throughout Central Pennsylvania once a month you are keeping local vendors in
business by locals. Local businesses will have a better relationship with their locals. There will also be a place to go
to find out what bakeries have available as well as tips and tricks on becoming your own baker.

Project Outline
The following project outline is the solution to creating PA Gourmet.

Prepare a Budget

Create space for the business

Prepare proposal

Financial Plan
After preparing my proposal I will be creating a fundraising campaign through Somolend to help pay for the cost of
this project. Once the Somolend fundraiser has ended I will then prepare to seek other future investors and/or open
a loan from the bank.

II. INTRODUCTION

!
PA Gourmet is a local magazine publication that focuses on local vendors in Central Pennsylvania. This
magazine publication highlights the use of local bakeries, restaurants, bistros, and chefs. While the use of local
bakery shops and restaurants are not failing the reviews are hard to find as well as what they have to offer you as
a consumer. With PA Gourmet local vendors will be able to showcase what they have available in their shops. A
special portion of the publication will also give you meet and greets with local Chefs in the area with special
dishes theyve created with certain foods. This publication is a monthly publication that will help you get to know
locals and keep small local shops in business.

!4

III. NEEDS/ PROBLEMS

!
Currently a magazine publication targeting bakeries/restaurants locally does not exist in Central Pennsylvania.
With the use of this magazine publication our consumers will be able to connect with local businesses as well as
educate themselves in the culinary industry.
The needs of this problem have always existed. Bringing awareness to local businesses will help
locals and tourists find the perfect shop for their special occasion.
This publication has never been addressed before and does not exist now.
Impact is not having the knowledge about local shops and where to go for all of your culinary
needs.
With Harrisburg bring the capital of Pennsylvania and being close to well known tourist
attractions such as: HersheyPark, Knoebals, Ski Round Top, Civil War Museum, and Gettysburg
the need for a publication to highlight locals in the hospitality industry is well needed.

!5

IV. GOALS/OBJECTIVES

!
1.

First goal is to provide consumers with reviews.

A. After asking customers to give reviews based on the taste and experience of the shops/restaurants

we will also give a review based on the cleanliness inside the shop.

2.

3.

Second goal is to target a demographic area.

A. With the use of telemarketers and our Sales Team we will contact local vendors as well as local stores
to have our product available.
Third goal is to showcase talented Chefs in the area.

A. By asking the public for their help in finding top Chefs in the area we will then be able to showcase by

featuring the top Chef in a segment of the publication. FAQs will also be available as well as a look

inside their hidden talents. With the use of on special ingredient our talent will give three different dishes

they can use that ingredient along with the recipe for our readers at home.

occur.]

Do not sell a lot of ads

Medium

Ads are what make the

operate able to operate.

High

Increase the subscriber

base and suggest a
panel to guarantee the
distribution. Create
surveys to find where PA
Gourmet is being read
the most and where.
Once we can increase
the subscribers - ads will
only become secondary.

Print date is behind

schedule

Low

Although malfunctions
occur all the time, a printing
malfunction is major. No
Print = No Magazine, No
Magazine = No Money.

High

You have to adhere to a

production schedule and
work back from the
dates given. Every
department will have
their own due date that
they will have to work
from.

Editorial sta makes

editing mistake

MediumHigh

Editing mistakes may seem

minor but a magazine that
looks unprofessional is a
magazine that is not worth
buying.

High

More than one eye needs

to proofread, not just the
editors. Once the editors
proofread, all managerial
staff needs to sit down
and read through a
rough draft to look for
any critical errors.

VI. TIMELINE

January 1, 2015 - January 7, 2015 - 1 Week - Create A Budget

A. The best way to create a budget is to contact a financial advisor. A financial advisor will help to plan the money
as well as show what the entire budget will cover. The budget should cover all the expenses for the first six
months.

January 8, 2015 - January 10, 2015 - 2 Days - Create Logo/Branding

A. In order to create an exceptional logo/branding for the company it is best to use two days with the first day
used in creating rough drafts. This will help make sure that we are creating something worth talking about.

January 11, 2015 - January 12, 2015 - 1 Day - Purchase Server Space

A. Purchasing server space will give the magazine an opportunity to be available to online viewers. Once my logo/
branding is complete I will be able to register my domain name and pay for the website with what my budget
entails.

January 13, 2015 - January 20, 2015 - 1 Week - Design Website

A. With the help of my budget designing the perfect website should not be a problem. I could enlist the help of
friends with a web design background at a discount or hire a web design company to create something magical.

January 21, 2015 - February 21, 2015 - 1 Month - Research Content

A. Using the internet will help me to research any content that I would want to include in my magazine.
Researching should take the most amount of time. One month doesnt seem like a long enough time to find
research, but if that is all youre doing for one month you can find out a lot of information about your project.

February 22, 2015 - February 28, 2015 - 1 Week - Create Marketing Campaign

A. For this task, I would seek help from a marketing major to find out the best campaign for the company. Viral
Ads, commercials, an event or social media.

March 1, 2015 - March 4, 2015 - 3 Days - Find Sponsors

A. I will hire telemarketers to help gather sponsors as well as send out my sales team for a door-to-door meet and
greet with local bakeries in the area.

March 5, 2015 - March 8, 2015 - 3 Days - Contact Printing Companies

A. In order to find the best printing company for our business I would contact several local printers to set up
interviews and find out what they could do for our company. Printing is a big part of the budget; it is a very
important role in publication.

March 9, 2015 - March 13, 2015 - 4 Days - Seek Out Vendors

A. This is another door-to-door task for my sales team. I would be in need of local bakeries, grocery stores,
bistros, and restaurants.

March 14, 2015 - March 18, 2015 - 4 Days - Sell Advertising

A. The best way to sell advertising is the use of telemarketers.

sponsors to help fund my project. Revenue will also come in through the subscriber base, keeping
