two weeks

we will be reading Stone Fox. It is
a story about
a boy who enters a


dogsled race
so that he can use

the prize money to pay off a debt
on his grandfathers
farm. It is a


story about
courage,

determination,
and friendship.

Some of the vocabulary words

SCHOOL

READING

WRITING
This week
students will be learning about
the writing process. We will
take them through
brainstorming, drafting, revising,
and editing. They will be
writing a descriptive paragraph
about themselves, a subject
they know best!
Students will receive two
different writing grades for
every essay thats written in
class. The first grade will be
for the writing process. Did
they go through each step? If
so that will earn them full
credit. The second grade is for
content. Did they include all
the necessary information for
that specific type of writing?
For this, theyll be given a
rubric that well discuss in class
throughout the week so
students know what is required.

SCIENCE

This weeks memory verse is:

MATH
Our focus this week
continues with number sense
by counting on, place value
strips, and ordering numbers.
On Friday we will have a quiz
to prepare us for our first test
next week. We will also be
taking our STAR Math test
this week to better instruct
students at their level.

Social Studies
The beginning of every year
starts out with practicing routines and
students learning their
responsibilities. Our Social Studies
time will also focus on rights and
responsibilities in our community. We
will take a look at various communities
and what makes them unique and
similar to ours.

The first unit we cover in 3rd

grade is Magnetism. We will also
introduce the steps of the scientific
method. We will see how much we
already know about magnets, and
what we want to know at the end of
this chapter. We will be doing a great
deal of hands on learning in Science.
We will have so much fun!

their first Keynote presentations!
Some students went home on
Wednesday with the homework
of just taking pictures and came
back with ten slides done
complete with titles, text, and
pictures! Its exciting to see how
enthusiastic the kids are about
using the new technology! We
didnt get to finish presenting, so
well be doing that this week!
