Technique Tips

Use the legato stroke on all taps and when playing more then one accent in a row on one hand.

A staccato stroke should be used on all accents that come before a 3-inch tap and when transfering from one
hand to the next.

An up stroke should be used on the 8th note tap before an accent.

Keep fingers relaxed around the stick but don't hold on to tight.
Turn wrist and forearm on all 8th notes (just like the single stroke exercise, you should feel like you
are dribbling a basketball).

Don't overplay accents.

Practice this exercise using various stick heights on all accents.

Lastly, listen to make sure all taps are smooth and even. A consistent balanced tap sound is very important.
