20% Time Project Overview

Introduction:
Each trimester you will be challenged to use your 20% Time to work on a project you
feel passionate about. You may choose to solve a problem, improve something, or
make something.
There will be benchmarks you must reach along the way, but how you choose to
accomplish your goal is up to you (and your team). You will have to pay close attention
to the scope of the project in order to not bite off more than you can chew in the time
allotted; manage your resources as to not run out prematurely; and meet all deadlines to
ensure your project is completed on time.
There will also be individual and group check-ins and write-ups do periodically, be sure
to schedule in time to complete each one to the best of your ability.

Year Overview:
The first trimester will be your personal endeavor. This is your chance to learn how you
work, what you need to be successful, and accomplish something that is specific to your
life. This is the time to hone your work ethic, so others know what to expect in the next
two trimesters when you will get the chance to work on a team. Because you will only
have yourself and your personal resources to rely on, your projects must be very
specific and small in scale. Its best to start small and if there is time, add on to your
project once your initial mission is complete.
The second trimester is a community project and because of this you will be working on
a team. You can solve a problem or make something for your class, home, environment,
town, or world. Because of the number of people and resources you will have access to
this trimester, projects and ideas may be a bit larger in scale then the first trimester.
The third trimester is an open project and you can choose to work alone or on a team.
Because this is the third time going through the entire project, start-to-finish, its
expected that you will know what to prepare for and how to avoid pitfalls you may have
fallen victim to in the past. You will have ample freedom in terms of your project, but
check-ins, write-ups, and deadlines still apply. Be sure to account for the time and
materials you will need to complete your project.
