COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This physical education course is designed to assist with the matriculation process of becoming a
physically literate person by providing experiences and opportunities for each student to acquire
knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to value and enjoy a lifetime of participation in
healthful physical activities. This is a required course for graduation.
COURSE STANDARDS:
SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators)
The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge,
skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
To pursue a lifetime of healthful physical activity, a physically literate individual:
The physically literate individual.
1. demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
2. applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
3. applies knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain health-enhancing level of physical activity and
fitness.
4. exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respect self and others.
5. recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social
interaction.

PROCEDURES:
At the beginning of the class, go directly into the locker room
No more than 5 minutes allocated for changing clothing
Remain in the locker room after changing until the teacher informs all students to exit and enter the
gym (* no loitering in the locker room)
Re-entry into the locker room is not permitted, unless authorized by the PE teacher due to emergency
or approved early dismissal
Upon entering the gym, report directly to designated squad for attendance and instructions
A student not meeting the dress requirements will participate in all class activities
For an excused absence (illness, appointments, field trip, etc) make-up is required. Zero points for
daily points for that period until approved make-up work has been completed.
A student excused due to a medical condition will complete a written assignment during the class
period (responsibility of the student to acquire the assignment from the teacher prior to locker room
dismissal) For an extended medical, student will be withdrawn from the course.
The teacher will inform the class of the start of activity or practice session (do not throw, kick,
bounce, etc any equipment after the whistle)
At the closure of the lesson or activity:
a. All equipment will be returned to the designated area in a safe and orderly manner
b. Cool-down and discussion will occur
c. The teacher will dismiss the class to report to the locker room

8.0
POLICIES:
8.1 Locker Room Expectations
Lockers must be cleaned out prior to the start of Final Examinations. The Physical Education
Department will not be responsible for items left in or on the lockers after this deadline.
Sharing of a locker is not permitted without prior approval from the teacher
$5.00 assessment fee will be charged for a school lock that is not returned by the due date
A student may not enter the locker room throughout the school day except during his or her
designated physical education period
No phones, MP3 players, or cameras usage in the locker room (stowed away, hands off)
8.2 Student Responsibilities and Appropriate Use of Equipment
Use equipment for intended purpose only!
Dunking or hanging on the rim is considered inappropriate behavior
Inappropriate, misuse or damage to equipment may result in a monetary compensation by
the student(s) responsible
8.3 Tardiness
A student not in the locker room by the 2nd bell is tardy and will not be allowed to change for
physical education
8.4 Appropriate Dress for Participation (change of clothing; not wearing to school or after class)
Acceptable clothing for physical education should be conducive for vigorous activity and meet the
criteria set forth by the Student Code of Conduct
The following are acceptable:
T-Shirts (no tank tops or cut off/out)
Shorts (acceptable length; waist not below hips)
Sweatpants/sweatshirts
Sneakers--- No boots, sandals, flip flops, or cleats
Cell Phones, Cameras, I-Pods, and MP3 Players are prohibited in all areas. Referral will be submitted for
violations. Upon entering locker room phones and all electronics are put away so they are out of sight and
sound.
