TRAINING AND DEVELOPING EMPLOYEES:

Purpose of orientation/on-boarding
o Comforting the new employee
o Providing basic access and information to the employee
o Making them understand org. in broad sense
o Help employee to socialize into the firms culture, values and way of
doing things
Orientation can be short and limited to providing access, policies, a facility
tour etc.
Informal orientation is used a lot now interaction with buddy, senior
management over dinner etc.
Training: Should be aligned with organizations goals and strategy.
o Analyse the needs of skills etc.
o Instructional design: with inputs from multiple people and reviewing
training material
o Implementation
o Evaluation
In training, learner or trainee should be motivated first before starting the
training
Training situation should be made as similar to work situation for easy
transfer of new skills to the work site.
Needs can be identifies by task analysis , competency model etc.
Training for current employees
o Performance analysis is very important to identify if performance
deficiency is due to lack of training or some other reason like lack of
motivation etc.
o Cant do / Wont do
Designing the training
o Set the objectives -> decide the budget -> decide the actual
content
Implementation of training
o On-the job training
Prepare the learner
Present the operation
Do a tryout
Follow-up
