state=INTER
Course Description: This discipline complements and expands the mathematical content
and concepts of Algebra I. Students who master Algebra II will gain experience with
algebraic solutions of problems in various content areas, including the solution of systems
of quadratic equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, the binomial theorem, and the
complex number system.
Goals :
To develop the ability to think mathematically.
To enhance problem solving ability.
To utilize technology appropriately.
To understand algebra as a study of the structure of the real number system.
To appreciate the value of algebraic techniques.
To continue to understand the concept of function as a unifying concept in
mathematics.
To develop algebraic skills and concepts as a foundation for subsequent study of
mathematics.
To reason and communicate mathematically.
To represent situations which involve variable quantities with expressions,
equations, and inequalities.
To learn, pass this course and appreciate Math!

Materials Needed: Yes, you are expected to bring these materials everyday along with your
assigned textbook!
1. Graphing Calculator
2. Grid Notebook
3. Pencils with erasers
4. Ruler
5. Loose Leaf Paper
Classroom Expectations:
1. Homework:
Homework is given everyday. If the work has to be turned in physically, then that
work is checked at the beginning of class. Should be submitted on time. There is no such

thing as a late homework. Late homework is tantamount to no homework. If homework

is incomplete, it is a 50.
Homework assignments will be posted on the class website:

FORMAT: Follow this format ALL THE TIME.

2. Quizzes:
Quizzes are either announced or unannounced. Announced quizzes may be made
up if you are absent. Unannounced quizzes are not made up.
3. Tests:
Tests will generally cover a set of sections and will vary in length and importance.
You will receive a fair warning of the test date.
4. Attendance:
It is very important to attend class every day. Although you will not lose points for absences,
your grade will definitely be affected.
5. Make Up Work:
If you miss a quiz or test you might be expected to make it up.
If you miss notes you should see a classmate to get them or talk to me.
6. Readiness:
You must be in the classroom on time with all of your supplies ready. You may not be permitted
to retrieve your materials from your locker.
7. Plagiarism:
You are responsible for your own work. Copying of any assignment, quiz, or test will result in a
zero for all parties involved.
Grading Policy

Classwork/Homework
Projects/Tests

35%
25%
40%

Note: The lowest homework and quiz grade of the quarter will be dropped.

Extra Help Schedule: My out of class hours will be posted on my door. If the available times do
not work for you, feel free to email or talk to me about scheduling an additional session. Please
note that this should be done a few days prior to the desired session day.
Retesting Policy
If more than 25% of the class fails a test, all students in the class will be given the opportunity to
retest. Otherwise, students shall only be allowed to retake a failed test if they have successfully:
completed 80% of the homework for the section on time and made up the rest
before the retake
corrected all section quizzes
All retakes must be taken outside of class and within a week after the test grade has been
received by the student.
The following grades are excluded from the retake provision, regardless of how many students
failed the assignment or test:
Quizzes
Semester Exams
Academic Honesty
Collaborate responsibly and submit your own work. I value collaboration and encourage you to
form study groups because it can facilitate learning, but it is essential that everyone learns the
material. Collaboration has little value if each group member works only a few problems and just
copies the rest. It is better to make an honest attempt at every problem and then compare and
discuss your results. Academic honesty should be maintained at all times. Academic dishonesty
includes, but is not limited to:
communicating verbally or nonverbally in order to exchange information during a
test, quiz, or other assessment
giving or receiving information during a test, quiz, or other assessment without
permission
using unauthorized materials during a test, quiz, or other assessment
copying the work of another and presenting it as your own
helping someone else to cheat
