Mr. Hicks:
I am writing in response to the invitation for the year-round internship in Marketing and Sales,
which I received earlier this month via email. As a Public Relations and Advertising, and Communications
major, this internship presents an opportunity to gain experience in the corporate world. It will allow me
to apply my knowledge of communication and its importance in accomplishing goals as a team. Being
granted the opportunity to apply and participate in this internship would be an honor and would assist
me with my future endeavors.
This fall, I will be entering my senior year in the College of Fine Arts and the Media studying
Public Relations and Advertising, and Communication Studies. My strengths include being driven, a
problem solver, encouraging, and an ability to work well with others. I also possess the ability to
communicate fluently in Spanish and French. My majors have fostered my skills in collaborating well
with others, which is displayed in my prior and current group work where I have shown reliability,
consistency and self-motivation.
Along with my excellent academic record, I currently hold two part-time jobs and two part-time
paid internships; one in the Thompson Learning Community (TLC) as a First Year Experience Mentor, the
other in the marketing department at the Koley Jessen Law Firm. I am also an active member and
treasurer of UNOs chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
If selected for the year-round internship in Marketing and Sales, I will use my extensive
marketing skills gained through TLC and various educational experiences to enhance my current
knowledge and capabilitiesproving myself an asset to Union Pacific. As I enter my senior year, I realize
the need to pursue opportunities successful companies like Union Pacific have to offer. Your company is
known for effective teamwork, communication and respect. These are all qualities I value and look
forward to developing as I transition into the next phase of my career.
I have attached my resume in addition to this letter indicating why I would be an ideal intern. If
you have any questions or would like additional information about my skills and abilities, you can reach
me at (402)-690-3484, or via email at saraatkins@unomaha.edu. Thank you for extending me an
invitation to apply for this internship. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,

Sara Atkins
