THANK YOU FOR BEING A CROP WALK TEAM CAPTAIN!

As one person, I cannot change the world, but I can change the world
of one person. --Paul Shane Spear
You are very important! You are giving each person on your team the opportunity to change the world.
As a recruiter you organize the walk team at your congregation, school, business, or social organization. You
encourage people to walk on the team and spread the message of the good works of the agencies we support.
The power of being a CROP Hunger Walk Team Captain comes in:
* Knowing the need: There has never been a time when your time, energy, and financial support are more
needed. Poverty at home and around the world is not decreasing. Locally many families struggle to make
ends meet because of low wages or lack of employment. The need for food assistance at both Crisis
Control and Sunnyside Ministry has increased, not only among families, but also among the elderly.
Children suffer, sometimes not knowing when they will have another meal. Globally, children suffer from
hunger and malnutrition. Lack of adequate water supplies, training, and tools prevent people from having
adequate food sources. Earthquakes, floods and other disasters have taken thousands of lives, leaving
children orphaned and families homeless.
* Knowing what your dollars have done: When you participate in the CROP Hunger Walk, you can be
assured that your donations will touch lives in your community and around the world. Since 1979, the
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County CROP Hunger Walk has brought together caring people in our community
to feed the hungry and help change lives. Together we have raised over $1,630,520 since our first CROP
Hunger Walk. These funds are shared with CWS (75%) to help in their hunger alleviation, food
development, and disaster relief programs and in 40 countries around the world (including the United
States), and with Crisis Control Ministry (12.5%) and Sunnyside Ministry (12.5%) to support the their
food pantries. Throughout the years, both organizations have received a combined $407,630 to assist in
their hunger efforts here in Forsyth County.
* Sharing your enthusiasm, energy and passion: Your enthusiasm is contagious! When you encourage
your group to participate in the CROP Hunger Walk and promote it in your church/organization, you offer
your group the opportunity to make a difference in the world. You offer your group the opportunity to
come together to lend someone a helping hand and the ability to help themselves, thereby strengthening
our community and changing the world. You offer your group an opportunity to be a part of ending hunger
. . . one step at a time . . . one person at a time.
You are the catalyst that makes our walk have the ability to make change happen! Thank you!

CROP Hunger Walk Recruiters Guide

Be sure to alert your walkers to the possibility of seeking

donations online. Many walkers have been able to double
the amount of money they raise by using this option!

How does online

fundraising work?
To sign up, or for more
information, go to:
crophungerwalk.org
Click on your state and then
scroll down to find your Walk.

8 Steps to Success

To streamline the process, you may want to set up an

online Walk team for your group in advance of your
recruiting and then encourage people to sign up for the
team. Its easy. Go to the website above for instructions.
If possible, have a laptop hooked up to the Internet by
your recruiting table so folks can sign up for the Walk
and your team at the same time. Dont hesitate to ask for
help in setting up your online Walk team.
Alert your members that they can join in the CROP
Hunger Walk online even if they cant walk by
contacting their friends and family via email to ask them to
support the event. Be sure to put a link in your online
bulletins and newsletters: crophungerwalk.org.

1. Set goals for your community,

congregation, campus or group.

2. Enlist leaders to walk.

3. Promote, promote, promote.

4. Sign up people to walk.

5. Suggest ways for walkers to raise

money (including online).

6. Make a splash on Walk day,

with signs, shirts, banners.

7. Turn in funds to your Walk

treasurer promptly.

Click on your Walk and follow

the simple step-by-step
instructions.
Start emailing family and
friends to support you in your
CROP Hunger Walk!

The more walkers you recruit,

the more money is raised
to help hungry people!

SUGGESTED GOAL: $150 or more in contributions per walker.

My congregation/group goals: _____walkers x $ _____(amount per walker) = $ ______Total

Heres what reaching your goal can achieve:

can provide three farm families

with everything they need to make
succulent, nutritious and marketable honey
training, hives, equipment.

$150

$500

can provide 4,000 lbs. of food for

a local food bank or provide up to
400 meals in a soup kitchen.

can provide 10 displaced families with

emergency food packages, each containing
enough to feed a family of five for a month.

$1,100

can provide a well that reaches deep into

the aquifer, allowing a village access to clean,
safe water. When periods of drought hit, communities with
deep water wells can continue to grow gardens, lessening
the drought's impact on local food supplies.

Step 1 Set goals.

Aim for at least 10 percent of your active
membership.
If your group walked last year, try to increase
the number of walkers by 25 percent.

Encourage them to promote the event, too!

Share resources with leaders involved in your Walk.
They can help you promote why youre walking.

Step 3 Promote! Promote!

Promote!
Publicize your groups fundraising goal
and the number of participants you hope to
recruit. Post progress on a drawing of a giant
sneaker, walking stick, or footprints. Challenge
every member of your group to participate as a
walker, donor or volunteer.
Put the date of your Walk on your groups
printed and online calendars. Also send it to
local media for their online community
calendars
Announce the Walk and encourage people of all
ages to participate. Ask for time to do a Minute for
Mission. Use the Education/Worship Resource to
do a childrens message about the Walk.
Spread the word in weekly publications such as
bulletins, newsletters, etc. Put up posters in
prominent places.
Use the CROP Hunger Walk
DVD. Show one of the
promotional videos
at gatherings.

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Put in their own $30

$30
Ask their significant other for $30
$30
Ask two friends for $15 each
$30
Ask two people at work for $15 each $30
Ask two neighbors for $15 each
$30
Total $150!!

Step 6 Make a splash

on Walk day!

Set up and staff a sign-up table every week

for 3 to 4 weeks before the Walk. Stand in front
of the table and invite people to participate.

Recognize Walk participants in public gatherings,

such as meetings or worship services.

A direct invitation to each prospective walker is

more effective than a general appeal.

Encourage people to wear CROP Hunger Walk

T-shirts. Have families with young children
decorate wagons or strollers.

Be sure your walkers fill out the top of their

Walk donation envelope completely. In addition,
give each participant a copy of Tips for
Fundraising Success.

Construct a banner with your organizations

name on it and make signs to carry in the Walk.

Organize teams of walkers from each group

you want to recruit classes, choir, womens
and mens groups, youth groups, service clubs,
sports teams, businesses, etc. Remind them
they can raise money as a team online, too!

Consider collecting all of the yellow top sheets

from the donation envelopes prior to the Walk,
so that one person can register all of your
walkers as a group. Be sure each Statement of
Consent is signed.

Step 5 Suggest ways for

walkers to raise money
(including online).

Enlist community leaders to walk.

Step 4 Recruit people

to walk.

Step 7 Turn funds in to the

Walk treasurer promptly.
Encourage your walkers to collect their
donations when their donors make a
commitment.
Remind walkers to collect all additional funds
and turn them in to you within two weeks.
Bulletin notes and announcements will be
helpful reminders.
Ask walkers to turn in all used and unused
Walk donation envelopes.

Encourage walkers to start by setting a personal

fundraising goal and sponsoring themselves.

Step 8 Say thanks!

Invite them to think about who they are going

to ask to donate from their family, friends,
congregation, work, school.

Be sure to thank all your walkers and donors

on behalf of CWS and all the neighbors theyve
helped around the world.

Encourage as many walkers as possible

to solicit donations via email. Its easy. They
can sign up at crophungerwalk.org. See back
page for more details.

Report back on the impact of your event:

number of people who walked; how much was
raised both from the entire Walk and from
your congregation or group; and how much will
be used locally.

Encourage walkers to ask their sponsors

whether their employer has a matching gift
program which might double their
contribution!

CROP Hunger Walk

Tips for fundraising success

You have a vital role in helping your CROP Hunger
Walk make a huge difference for people in your
community and around the world. Heres how to
get started!

Set a challenging goal. A good place to start is at $150 but dont

hesitate to raise your goal as you near that mark!
Start early. Get your donation envelope from your Walk recruiter and
ask sponsors for their donations as theyre filling out their info on the form.
Maximize your efforts. Create your own online donation page at

crophungerwalk.org.
Make it personal. Tell why youve chosen to walk. Share inspiring photos

and videos about how youre helping fight hunger.

Schedule separate emails to:
Announce the Walk and ask for donations,
Update sponsors and prospects with your goal status,
Appeal for last-chance donations,
Report your results and personally thank those whove supported you.

Reach out to all your online contacts, using the fundraising tools at

crophungerwalk.org or your own email. Post status updates and link to

your donation page through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other sites.
Make sure to add your fundraising page link to your email signature.

Make your message simple. Im walking in the CROP Hunger Walk

to help end hunger. Will you sponsor me?
Ask everyone to support you. Friends, neighbors, relatives, people
in your congregation/school/workplace. Its simple: ask more people,
raise more money, help more people in need.
Get creative. Give out jars for people to save their change in for a month.
Ask friends to sponsor your child or pet, whos also supporting the Walk.
Throw a party, hold an auction use your imagination!
Remember. Stay focused on why youre involved in the CROP Hunger
Walk and how your efforts will help people in need. See the other side
of this sheet for a few examples.

Steps to an Effective CROP Hunger Walk

For Faith Communities

Arrange with your clergy to include something about world and local hunger in the four Sunday services prior to the
CROP Hunger Walk. For example:

Week 1 - Introduce the CROP Hunger Walk to your congregation. Set a CROP Walker goal (number of walkers) for
your church. Over the next four weeks, use a graphic display like a thermometer to tell your
congregation how its doing.
Week 2 - Include hunger facts in your worship bulletin. If possible, read additional facts about hunger from the
pulpit. (See Activities and Educational Resources section in your Recruiters Guide for information.)
Week 3 - Do a childrens sermon or Mission Minute about how CROP Walk dollars are making a difference around
the world.
Week 4 - Invite someone from the church who has visited a developing country to share his or her experience.

Skits, facts, childrens sermons and other resources are included in your Recruiters Guide and also available at
www.cropwalkonline.org under CROP Resources.

During this Four Week CROP Hunger Walk Campaign, you can also:

Post CROP Walk posters in your building for a month prior to the walk.

Use CROP Walk bulletin inserts two or three weeks before the walk.

Have a sign-up table available in the narthex or fellowship hall for all four weeks leading up to the CROP Hunger Walk.
Rotate volunteers to sign up walkers.

Photocopy colorful feet for each walker to put his or her name on them. Display feet around a gym or fellowship hall.
This provides a great visual of how many people are participating.

Have a creative container available to collect CROP Hunger Walk donations at the sign-up table from those who are
unable to walk.

Invite a representative from Church World Service, Crisis Control Ministry or Sunnyside Ministry to speak to your
congregation or Sunday School Class.

Encourage people to walk in groups. For example, an adult Sunday School Class or a Youth Group can walk as a
service or outreach project. Sunday School Classes can walk together or can walk in friendly competition with each
other. Encourage families to sign up together.

Call every individual and family that signed up to remind them about the Walk date, time and place, where you will
meet if carpooling, and about how money will be collected.

Use ideas from the CROP Hunger Walk Recruitment Ideas found in your Recruiters Guide.

Remind people: We Walk Because They Walk You can walk with the world!

Prayers and Inspiration

Boundless God,
help us to see the world differently
not with our own limited vision but with the gaze of love
and justice.
Give us the foolishness to believe that we can change
what the world says is impossible;
and when we lose sight of the power of love to change the
world, increase our faith. Amen.
From http://foodgrainsbank.ca

Make us worthy, Lord,

to serve our brothers and sisters throughout the world,
who live and die in poverty and pain. Give them today,
through our hands and through our Walk their daily
bread; and through our understanding love, give peace
and joy. Amen.

Hunger Is Everybodys Business a collection of resources to

educate people of all ages about the impact of hunger around the
world, with activities related to hunger, water and children.

Facts Have Faces: Hunger a 12-page resource offering the

latest information on hunger and malnutrition around the world

and ways you can help.

A hidden crisis
(To demonstrate the difference between an average versus a malnourished
5-year-old, use the CWS die-cut card (LG 1349) or two paper circles (or roll the
paper into tubes) one 2-1/4 inches in diameter and one 15/16 inch in diameter.)

Did you know that malnutrition is an underlying cause of death

for 3.5 million children each year? Thats about one-third of all
child deaths in the world.
Upper arm circumference is one measurement of malnutrition.
An average 5-year-olds upper arm is about 7 inches around.
A severely malnourished childs upper arm would be less
than 3 inches around.
Factors contributing to this malnutrition are many drought
and disasters that decimate crops, lack of clean water, poor
sanitation and hygiene, and rising food prices, to name a few.
But we can help save lives and give children a chance to
grow healthy and strong! When we walk in the CROP Hunger
Walk, were providing micronutrients that support better health
and development. Helping communities gain access to safe
water. And giving families the tools and training to grow or
buy nutritious food.

Becoming and overcoming

Overcoming poverty is not a task of
charity, it is an act of justice. Like slavery
and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is
man-made and it can be overcome and
eradicated by the actions of human

it falls on a

great. YOU can
be that great
generation. Let

What a motivated farmer can do

For most of us, food security is a given. We need only go to
the market and get what we want. But families like that of
Francisca Moncada Hernndez are dependent on what they
can grow.
Francisca was always interested in farming. Her family
planted beans and corn, the basic diet of the Miskito tribe in
Rio Coco, but drought and plagues often left them hungry.

Nicaragua/CWS

If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say
to this mulberry tree, Be uprooted and planted in the
sea, and it would obey you.

Engaging God,
you call us to action.
For you are not a God of distance,
but a God who comes close to us
in the humanity of Christ;
you are not a God of inactivity,
but a God who is constantly engaged
with the needs of the world
and the sufferings of your people.
Call us from complacency to action,
as we engage with you in the building of your Kingdom.
Help us to heed your call.
Stir us from idleness to activity,
as we work with others to create
practical expressions of newness.
Help us to be responsive to your stirrings.
Lift us from tiredness to renewed energy,
as we offer our time, talents and money
where they are most needed.
Help us to be renewed by your everlasting arms.
Raise us from hopelessness to a belief in new
possibilities,
as we follow the example of the ever-giving and
self-denying Christ.
Help us to rise in Him to fullness of life. Amen

Seeing the world differently

Worship Resources

Francisca Moncada Hernndez, who benefited from CWS training and

assistance, now teaches other families the farming methods that have
helped her family break the grip of hunger and poverty.

With help from Church World Service, Francisca and her

family learned innovative agricultural techniques, added new
vegetables and fruits to their garden, began raising chickens and sheep, and learned how to farm despite drought. Our family
meals are more nutritious and balanced, she says. Now, Francisca shows other families what shes learned about crop diversity,
soil preservation, irrigation systems, and organic fertilizers and pesticides.
CROP Hunger Walk changed Franciscas life and many others. Walk with us on [Date/Time] and help more families like
Franciscas have enough to eat!

Kenny: (very quick and excited) Ding!

(pauses, stares vacantly) Um. What is
100?

Skits

Host: (bored sounding) Incorrect.

Anyone else?

Quiz Show

Sally: (quick and excited) Ding! What is

200?

Written by Cameron Gallant 2013. Adapted

and used with permission.

Host: (slightly more interested now)

Incorrect as well! Veronica? Are you
going to guess this one?

Characters: TV Host; assistant Lauren;

contestants Veronica, Sally, Kenny

Scene opens to 3 players competing
on Quiz Show, with podiums or music
stands in front of each. Veronica is the
leader, with $_______. Other two
players have negative scores (-$50).

Veronica: Ding! What is 200 million

hours? Every day, women around the
world have to collect water. The Empire
State Building took more than 7 million
work hours to build, so 200 million
hours is about the time equivalent of
constructing 28 Empire State Buildings
per day!

[NOTE: Veronicas score at the beginning should be

half the amount of the Walks goal amount, minus
$2,000, so that at the end of the game, her doubled
score is equal to the Walk fundraising goal.]

Host: Very good, Veronica!

Host: All right everyone, we have one

question left before the Final
Showdown. And then Lauren will
deliver the announcement weve all
been waiting for. But for now, Veronica,
its your turn to pick the question.

Sally: (confused) I dont understand.

200 million hours doing what? Getting
water?
Veronica: 780 million people lack
access to safe water. Even more dont
have running tap water like we do. So,
altogether, 200 million hours are spent
each day collecting water and some
people have to walk miles and miles
just to get water.

Veronica: Uh, lets see Water, for

$2,000.
Host: The combined number of hours
spent daily by all the women in the
world collecting water for their families.

Sally: Where to? Like, do they go to

neighboring towns or some creek?
Why dont they just live in a place
where there is water? It seems like a
pretty obvious decision to me.
Veronica: Money, mainly. Most people
who dont have safe drinking water live
in an impoverished country. Theyre too
poor to move, and they have to spend
so much time getting water that they
cant be working and earning an
income. So its an endless loop: they
stay poor and need water.

Cambodia, Annie Griffiths/Ripple Effect Images

Sally: That sounds awful. I sure

wouldnt wanna be in that situation.
Kenny: So, like, the water they get is
from wherever they can find it, like
puddles and swamps if nothing else is
available?
Veronica: In essence, yes.
Kenny: (suddenly excited) Yesss!
(other three characters stare at him,
surprised.)

Host: (hesitantly) So you think thats

a good thing?
Kenny: (excitement fading) Huh? Oh
no, sorry. I was just excited because
that was the first question Ive gotten
right all day.

Childrens Sermon/Activity

Host: (Hummph to self) Well, I do

believe its time now for the Final
Showdown. Kenny, Sally, since you are
in the red, you wont be able to play.
Veronica, what would you like to
wager?
Veronica: (confidently) Ill bet it all.
Host: (nods, unsurprised) The
organization that created the CROP
Hunger Walk. Thirty seconds.
Veronica: (immediately) What is Church
World Service? (slight pause) Its a
great organization that helps families
and communities with seeds, tools and
training to grow nutritious food. And
with solutions for safe water. They also
provide disaster relief and long-term
recovery assistance, and help resettle
refugees forced to leave their homes.
The money raised by CROP Hunger
Walks goes towards ending hunger in
local communities and around the
world.
Host: Correct! (cast claps) Lauren, why
dont you tell us more about the local
CROP Hunger Walk coming up?
[Signs change: Veronica now has $_________;
Sally and Kenny each have $1,000 (sponsored by
Believe!)]

Lauren: (comes to front) Save the date

everyone! Were having our own [City]
CROP Hunger Walk to help Church
World Service continue the fight
against global hunger. The Walk is on
[Day/Date] and it starts at [Time/Place].
Each year, we set a fundraising goal
for the Walk, and this year, were trying
to match Veronicas winning score of
$_______ which will bring our
cumulative CROP Hunger Walk total to
$_______ since it first began in [Year].
Do you believe we can do it?
Host: Its a community here. Of course
we can!
Lauren: I know so, too. I really hope to
see all of you guys at the CROP
Hunger Walk on [Date]!

Message in a water bottle

(Suitable for children 4-6 years old; different age groups might
require rewording the message below, as it pertains to 5-yearold children.
Materials needed: one bottled water for each child. If doing
activity: also provide art supplies such as glue sticks,
markers, construction paper, stickers, faux gems and other
items to decorate the bottles.)
Every one of us has muscles, dont we? We need them to
help us walk and run and climb and carry things. If I said,
Show me your muscles, what would you do? (Encourage
them to participate by flexing arm muscles, and then
responding, Wow! Youre strong! when they do the same.)
Our muscles grow strong when we eat healthy food and drink
clean water. But in some parts of the world, children dont
have healthy food to eat or clean water to drink. So they dont
grow strong muscles. Instead, they can get very sick. (Hand
out a water bottle to each child.)
Look at the top of your water bottle. Do you see how little that
is? (Make a circle with your finger and thumb to simulate the

size of the circle.) For sick children without healthy food to

eat, thats the size of their upper arm where their big, strong
muscle should be.
Now look at the middle of your bottle. Its about this big.
(Wrap both hands around the bottle to measure the
circumference, then slide hands off and look through the
circle of your hands.) Thats about the size of your strong,
healthy upper arm.
You know, muscles are good for a lot of things. And helping
people who arent as strong or healthy as we are is one of
them. Jesus asks us to help feed hungry people and make
sure they have water when theyre thirsty. Thats why our
church is walking in the CROP Hunger Walk and raising
money to help end hunger.
You can help, too. Tell your parents you want to join the
CROP Hunger Walk so your family can help kids around the
world get the nutritious food they need to be strong like you.

Clergy Support for CROP Hunger Walks

Clergy are a key factor in the success of CROP Hunger Walks. Your
promotion of the event and public recognition of participants can make a
big difference in the level of participation. Members of a congregation are
more likely to become involved when you participate in the Walk. Here are
a few simple tasks that you can do to increase the number of Walkers and
the amount of funds raised.

Learn about the local CROP Hunger Walk.

Details are mailed to congregations, usually
four to six weeks before the Walk. Go to
www.cropwalkonline.org to find your Walk listing.
If necessary, call the CWS Regional Office
(888-297-2767) for the name of a local contact.
Appoint or help identify a Recruiter to
pick up the necessary materials, sign up and
instruct Walkers, collect funds, and return the
funds and envelopes to the Walk Treasurer. In
a large congregation, having more than one
Recruiter is helpful.
Announce the event during worship
and encourage people to participate as Walkers
and donors. Begin three to four weeks before
the date of the Walk. Ask Walkers to get a
Donation Envelope from the Recruiter(s).
Promote the Walk through newsletters,
fliers, bulletins. Promotional materials are free
of charge from the local Walk Committee or
your CWS Regional Office. Visit our website at
www.cropwalk.org for resources.
Walk in the CROP Hunger Walk yourself.
Clergy can demonstrate a personal commitment
to neighbors in need by participating.

Other ways to support the Walk

Offer to be in friendly competition with a
neighboring congregation and/or clergy. Offer to wear
a rivals favorite college sweatshirt if your congregation
raises less. Detail a car. Wash windows. Cook a meal.
Have some visible, public fun and get folks involved!
Involve the entire congregation by including
hunger/justice themes in worship. Worship resources
are available from the local committee and at
www.cropwalk.org.
Preach near the CROP Hunger Walk date on
hunger and social justice issues.
Teach children, youth and adults about the
root causes of hunger and other social justice issues.
Educational materials and videos are available from
the Regional Office and online at the CWS website.
Plan events for youth with the hunger/justice
theme fasts, sleepovers, retreats.
Take photographs of people who sign up to walk
and display on a wall or bulletin board.
Say thank you and report on results following
the Walk.

For some people, participation in their local CROP Hunger Walk is the beginning of a life-long ministry on behalf
of the hungry a development clergy can help foster through their involvement.

For more information, contact your

CWS Regional Office at 888-297-2767
or go to www.cropwalk.org.

CROP HUNGER WALK EXERCISE

What is it like to live in a third-world country?
How does it compare with living here in Winston-Salem?

Imagine that you are living in a village in one of the impoverished areas of Africa, Asia or Latin America. To
show you some of the challenges that many people in these areas face, Im going to ask you some
questions.

Does anyone need glasses for reading? If so, raise your hand.
In a developing country, you would probably be illiterate, because eyeglasses are rarely available. Put
your hand over one eye and keep it there.

Has anyone ever broken a bone in their upper body or arm? If so, raise your hand.
Now put that arm behind your back. If you were living in an impoverished area, you would have restricted
movement because people with skills to set broken bones would be in short supply, so your broken bone
would probably not heal right.

Has anyone ever had a broken bone in their lower body or leg? If so, raise your hand.
You would also be physically limited because of the lack of availability of medical care. Stand on one leg.

Are you a female?
In many parts of the world, women only eat after all the men and children have eaten, leaving women
weak and much more vulnerable to illness. If you are a female, please sit down.

Have you ever been bitten by a mosquito?
About 40% of the worlds population, mostly those living in the poorest countries, are at risk of
contracting malaria, which causes 300 million acute illnesses and kills one million people annually. You
can sit down.

Has anyone ever had diarrhea or an upset stomach?
An inconvenient discomfort for us, but it is deadly for many in the developing world, especially children,
where over one billion people lack access to safe drinking water. You can sit down.

So, whos left? No one? What struck you during this brief exercise? What feelings arose? What actions
might our faith call us to in light of this exercise?

Heres one more quick exercise. We all must have water to live, yet we rarely take time to appreciate
how blessed we are to have easy access to clean water in our daily lives. Consider these questions:

Have you ever had to walk at least a mile to get water for you or your family? More than 200 million
hours are spent every day by women and children to collect water from distant, often polluted, sources.

Have you ever collected rainwater to use in your home or to water your garden? About 40% of the
worlds population is encountering serious water shortages. In fact, with global warming, we are all
encouraged to collect and reuse rainwater to save using tap water for our gardens.

Did someone do your laundry this week? The average American uses 100 150 gallons of water each day
to perform household tasks such as laundry and dishwashing. Compare this to the average African, who
uses only 3 5 gallons of water each day.

Did you drink any bottled water today? In the U.S. we often choose to buy bottled water even though we
have clean water available from the tap. One out of every six people in the world lacks this access to safe
drinking water.

Did you flush a toilet today? One toilet flush in the U.S. uses as much water 4 7 gallons as the
average person in a developing country uses for a whole days drinking, cooking, washing and cleaning
combined.

How will you look at water in the future?

Fun Ways to Inspire Donations!

Hot Dog Lunch
You could have a hot dog lunch after church with profits going toward your team goal. A pancake supper is always
fun and easy to do. Perhaps your team members could bring their own electric skillets and pancake recipes and
see who could sell the most pancakes. With the weather finally cooling down, its a perfect time for chili!

Sell Footprints
Another easy way to get more donations and bring awareness to CROP Walk is to sell the footprints that were
included in your recruiters booklet. Just make copies, cut them out and ask those who make a donation to write
their name on them and tape them along a hallway or even on the floor to show support for CROP Walk. Heres a
short video to get you started! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgYGFCWWtwE&feature=relmfu

Senior Rock-a-thon
You can get your seniors involved by having a Rock-a-thon. Set up several rocking chairs for people to rock in
during a church dinner or other function and encourage donations for their efforts.

Hold a Church Dinner

Church dinners are a great time to recruit team members and promote CROP Hunger Walk. Use CROP Walk
placemats and table tents. Just print them out and youre ready to decorate your tables. You can even add a
donation jar at each table to get spare change, which can go, toward your team goal. Or each team member could
host a table and talk about what CROP Walk means to them as you eat dinner, then encourage your table to
contribute to your donation jar.

Letter to Family & Friends

Write a letter to family and friends telling them why youre walking in the CROP Hunger Walk and enclose a self-
addressed envelope so they can easily send their contribution to you. Remind them to make checks out to
CWS/CROP.

Set up Your Team Online Donation Page

I hope that by now youve set up your team online donation page at www.cropwalkonline.org and reminded your
team members to set up their page, also. Its easy to set up and then just email friends and family so they can
make secure, online donations.

Set up Computer Access

Does your church or group have wireless Internet? If so, you can set up two computers, one to get people to sign
up and to create their individual page, and the other to ask people to make an online donation to a team member.

Other Ideas?
Do you have other ideas? Please share them with us! Email recruiter@cropwalkforsyth.org or share them on our
Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cropwalkforsyth.
