RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY ARREST

3-3-10 at 1:13 pm., Bakersfield Police Officers were dispatched to a

residential burglary in progress in the 1400 block Ivan Avenue, with the
Homeowner detaining the suspect at gunpoint. Officers arrived on
scene and took the suspect into custody in the upstairs bathroom. The
suspect, later identified as John Garner had entered the residence
through an open window, and located a rifle stored in a closet. Garner
went upstairs with the firearm. While the suspect rummaged the
upstairs area, the Homeowner hears noises upstairs and arms himself
with his handgun. The Homeowner goes upstairs and finds Garner
hiding inside the upstairs bathroom. When the Homeowner pushes
open the bathroom door, he sees the armed suspect, and instinctively
fires his revolver above Garner’s head to scare him. Garner drops the
rifle and drops to the floor until Officers arrive. Garner was found to be
in possession of suspected illicit drugs and had an outstanding
misdemeanor warrant. Garner was arrested for numerous charges and
the warrant.
