Text Features

Write down the definitions in your Notes section!

Definitions
1. Bibliography- list of books or articles used by the author to write
a book
2. Body- main section/text of the book
3. Preface- beginning of the book, gives you an idea of what the
book is about and why it was written
4. Copyright page- page right after title page, gives you the year in
which the copyright was issued and when the book was published

5. Index- alphabetical listing of important things found in the book
and is located at the back
6. Title page- first printed page of the book, gives you the title, the
authors name, and the publishers name
7. Glossary- alphabetical listing of words with their correct
definition, spelling, and pronunciation

8. Table of contents- beginning of the book, shows the major
divisions of the book, such as units or chapters and shows how
they are organized and page numbers
9. Appendix- back of the book, gives you extra information such as
maps, charts, tables, and diagrams
10. Sidebar- information placed on the side of an article

11. Caption- descriptive bit of text that labels a picture, chart, or
table
12. Illustration- picture such as a drawing, painting or photograph
13. Underline- one or more horizontal lines immediately below text
14. Boldface- makes text darker than the surrounding text

Numbered list- things are numbered in order
Bulleted list- things are put in order by bullets
Chart/graph- type of information that represents numeric data
and/or functions
