The Freshman Technology course, CIT/Design, is to prepare students to pass the

IC3 computer literacy exam and obtain a Technology foundation that can support
any chosen pathway in Tafts CTE program and IBCP (International Baccalaureate
Certification Programme). The course is designed to teach students to use
computer applications in all the disciplines: Arts, Mathematics, Individual &
Societies, Science, Language & Literature, Physical & Health Education and CareerTo-Education. Special attention is given to support reading and writing initiatives
and alignment with MYP. The Design course relies heavily on project-based learning
and the Design Cycle - which is an important part of MYP technology. The Design
Cycle consist of 5 phases to develop problem solving skills and understanding the
design process.

GRADING:
All grading is completed on a point basis and will vary based on each project and MYP Criterion
Students will be graded on attendance, class participation/behavior, projects/assignments and
assessments
Promptness, punctuality and classroom participation are necessary for a good grade. Class cutting
and tardiness will not be tolerated and will affect your final grade.
If it is necessary for you to be tardy, please have your pass ready when you come to class.
Projects/Assignments/Assessments must be turned in on the due to date -no late work will be
accepted
When absent, it is the students responsibility to find out what work was missed and arrange to
complete it within 5 days.

ATTENDANCE:
Attendance in class every day is vital to your learning the material presented and benefitting from class.
Students who are chronically absent will not be able to keep up with the class work and will miss valuable
instruction time. The Chicago Board of Education rule on attendance is:
Students must attend their classes in order to learn and retain course subject matter.
Consequently, Students success in earning credits towards promotion shall be determined by
attendance in class as well as by performance on academic assignments. Therefore, students who
have unexcused absences in 20% or more of the classes in a particular course during the period
for which a unit of credit is earned shall not pass the course and shall receive no credit towards
promotion.
