Function

The main instrument of the


inalienable and inadvisable
rights of all of mankind. It was
the first comprehensive and
explicit statement designed
especially for the creation of a
universal standard regarding
the recognition and protection
of human rights
It commits its parties to respect
the civil and political rights of
individuals, including the right
to life, freedom of religion,
freedom of speech, freedom of
assembly, electoral rights and
rights to due process and a fair
trial
Protect second generational
rights which ensure citizens can
participate fully and safely in
society whilst maintaining
human dignity
