Conclusion
Implications

Laboratory confirmation of the cause of ILI is very

important as it will dictate the management instituted

Influenza, RSV, and certain bacterial infections can lead to

serious complications requiring hospitalization

ILI can spread rapidly and outbreaks can have potentially

devastating consequences, particularly for
immunocompromised persons hence need for sentinel
surveillance

More males were affected (56.3%)

All the four regions in Tranquilidad were affected by the

respiratory viruses

Influenza A was the major cause of ILI while RSV was the
least cause

Most cases occurred between weeks 29 and 36

Residents should be vaccinated against the respiratory

viruses early enough to prevent outbreaks as most cases
occur between weeks 29 and 36

More surveillance in the region is needed to determine why

some viruses are more prevalent in one region than the
other
