Military Action Against ISIL
Through my experience in ROTC and other involvements with the military community I have come to
learn in great depths about the military situation in the Middle East against ISIL. Through my
discussions with officers within the United State Army who have served in the Middle East and
Specialize in understanding that region of the world, I have come to believe very strongly that the
United States needs to take a much stronger role in stopping the advancing ISIL. During my
discussions with these various people with hands on experience in this matter, they explained to me the
regional impacts that could come about if more serious action isnt taken soon to stop ISIL. Currently
in territory that is controlled by ISIL minorities such as the Kurds, Christians, Atheists, Gays And
Lesbians are being severely persecuted to the point that they are left with two options either flee and try
to start their lives over in a new area of the world or face almost ceartian death at the hands of ISIL.
Hearing about the suffering these people have to endure at the hands of ISIL coupled with the fact that
ISIL has launched a determined campaign to destroy all ancient ruins in the area that arent apart of
Muslim history has lead me to strongly believe that the United States needs to take strong and
immediate action against ISIL to try and ensure the preservation of our cultural heritage such as the
ruins but more importantly to try stop the terrible crimes against humanity that ISIL has repeatedly
done in the most brutal and barbaric of ways.
Through learning about this issue I have become more interested in what the potential presidential
candidate running for office have to say about this issue. I believe that this issue will become
increasingly important in the presidential debates as the election seasons progress this issue will allow
the candidates lead into the larger issue of foreign policy as well as how to deal with terrorist groups.
Learning about this topic has also encouraged me to learn more about what in the past America has
done in situations like this and I have learned that in the past America has always decided to act on
behave of the interest of preserving human rights and democracy. I am also very interested in seeing
what will happen with the situation with ISIL in the coming months.
