Dear parents,

For the 2015/2016 school year, Cedar Springs is proud to once again offer the Cedar
View Chorus for grades 4-5. This choir will be an extra curricular performance based
group for grades 4-5. To become a member of this a group a student will have to have an
audition. An audition will consist of singing an unaccompanied piece of music ranging in
time from 30 seconds to 1 minute, as well as an oral response as to why the student wants
to be in the choir. Auditions will be occurring on Wednesday, September 23 & Thursday,
September 24, 2015 in the music room at Cedar View from 3:30 to 5:00. There is no sign
up sheet for time slots; we will be taking students one at a time. Students with a last name
A-M will audition on Wednesday and students with a last name of N-Z will audition on
Thursday. If your student needs to leave promptly, we will do our best to have your
student audition ASAP. Parents will be notified of the results by Saturday, September 26.
The CVC does a great deal of two part harmony works and to ensure more effective use
of our time with the students; we will be breaking the CVC into two groups for rehearsal.
Half of the members will rehearse on Tuesday, the other half on Wednesday, and
everybody rehearses together on Thursday. All rehearsals will be from 3:30 to 4:30 PM
regardless of day. September 29, 30, & October 1 will have all students rehearsing
together. These three rehearsals will be used to determine the make up of the
Tuesday/Wednesday groups. Starting the week of October 6, students will be split into
their respective Tuesday and Wednesday groups. Parents will be notified by October 2
which group their student is in.
Attendance is a necessity for this group to succeed. If a student is absent, Mr. Shutes
needs to be notified within 24 hours of rehearsal, preferably before. Rather than having a
limited amount of days allotted to miss, we are taking a different approach this year. All
absences will be recorded digitally and if a student is missing a great deal of rehearsal,
especially for unexcused absences, a conference with the student, parent, and Mr. Shutes
will have to be held if the student wishes to continue being a part of the CVC. Cedar
View offers many wonderful after school opportunities for students to partake in and
please take that into consideration when deciding to join the CVC because we need every
student at every rehearsal.
The CVC performs at numerous events in the Cedar Springs and Greater Grand Rapids
area throughout the course of the year. A detailed schedule has been included, and is also
available on our website www.cvchorus.weebly.com. Please check these dates to assure
that your student is available. There is always the potential for additional performances
throughout the year, and if a performance is added, a minimum of a months notice will be
given.

If your student is interested in joining the CVC, please fill out this form and have them
bring it with them to the audition on Wednesday September 23 for last names A-M and
Thursday, September 24 for last names N-Z from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. Please do not turn the
form into a classroom teacher or Mr. Shutes before the audition.
