Entry 1: Technology to Support Communication

Communication is the key to success. This not only hold true to the world of business
but also to world profession of educators. Being able to express ones meanings and
understandings of your own personal knowledge to your target audience will allow for a better
understanding of what you might be trying to teach. Giving letters to students or mailing out
report cards are now a thing of the pasted, with the evolution of technology connections between
teacher and other important characters can have all the essential knowledge of an overall student
performance. The introduction of these advancement in technology: computers, tablets, and
smart phones just to name a few have increase the ability for a teacher to gather knowledge that
will allow for the young students minds to be challenged.
Technology to Enhance Communication
Computers: The first ever computer that was made for digital display was the ENIAC and by
todays standards was ridiculous the ENIAC was incredibly enormous, weighing 30 short tons
(27 t), with dimensions of about 8.5 feet (2.6 m) by 3 feet (0.9 m) by 80 feet (26 m) and taking
up 680 square feet (63 m2). Its components included 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7,200 crystal diodes,
1,500 relays, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors and approximately 5,000,000 hand-soldered
joints. It could consume 150 kilowatts of electricity (Dimensionsinfo, 2015) now try and
imagine fitting this kind of equipment into a classroom? It also took some time to get all of the

information calculated for a result. Well computers have come a long way from ENIAC, now
most people have more power with their cell phones than they had back in the 1940s when the
computer craze was in effect. With this instant connection to information, educators like myself
have a wide range of sources that can be accessed rather quickly to help support additional
information. Not only can this information be educational is can also be informative. Parents
can reach a teacher in more ways than just the phone, with many times teachers getting back to
those parents before the school is out that same day. This kind of connection will help increase
parents support of the teacher while also making sure that their child is acting how they should.
Hand Held Device (ex: Tablets, Cellphones)- The findings from a research article revealed that
there are teachers with more than 10 years of teaching experience but never got any formal
training on using (Safitry, T. S., Mantoro, T., Ayu, M. A., Mayumi, I., Dewanti, R., & Azmeela,
S. 2015). This learning or teaching style is not helping a student out, in fact many believe that
the the non-use of technology in the classroom hurts students more that it will help them.
Teachers need to commit to this style of change, it is now more common to see students with a
tablet that was giving to them by a school district to complete educational assignments. Tablets
will be used for learning lessons at home while also giving kids homework that has to be done
on the tablet so that scores can be taken right away and grades will be known at a faster rate.
Parents will also have a log in to look over areas of learning that might need some more attention
on than others.
Communication Internet Security and Safety
With the growth of technology and the fact that most people do a lot of their daily stuff online it
is easy to believe that the importance of security and safety on the internet is at an all-time high.

Each person needs to do his or hers own personal check to follow rules that are set by your
teacher to help decrease the threat of a hack or loss of private information. But sadly enough it
is impossible to influence the average user to take a more active role in online safety. (LaRose,
R., Rifon, N. J., & Enbody, R. (2008). All security protocols will be set before any student can
touch a computer, also every student will have a signed slip from their parents that they have
with their child gone over the rules for classroom internet use.
Once a form of communication has been set in a classroom and all parties attached to the
classroom understand everything than that is when true learning can really start. Understand that
these forms of communication with the students and parents are not there to diminish the
teachers knowledge but to only help facilitate a higher level of learning. Teachers are still
students themselves with the world of education always changing to either meet state standards
or district standards being able to adapt to a schools demands and the demands of your classroom
will allow for success for not only the short term but the long term.
